Thanks to your support, our students were able to get hands-on experience with seed-starting kits, came back from summer break eager to see the changes that vined up the trellis, and to plant some of the vegetable seeds that we were waiting to plant this fall. These resources have given them the opportunity to dig in, plant, grow, observe, and learn firsthand about where our food comes from.\r\n\r\nThrough this project, students are continuing to discover the farm-to-table connection—from planting a tiny seed and caring for a growing plant to understanding how fresh vegetables make their way from the garden to our tables. They get really excited when they notice the veggies and fruits in the cafeteria salad bar and can't wait to see the produce in our garden area. More importantly, they are developing curiosity, responsibility, and an appreciation for growing and enjoying fresh food. Once we received our materials, my students and their 5th grade buddies took off with their ideas, creativity and the excitement to help clean up around their school, at the local park and nearby beach was infectious. Students designed several different kindness hats to distribute to those that didn't have any & some who loved the logo even brought hats from home and asked if their peers could add the kindness messages to theirs. Almost everyday after lunch students asked to borrow the trash grabbers and help clean up the lunch court. These materials made cleaning up from their school to the beach fun and has encouraged a greater awareness of how to take care of the world around them. In the mornings, students say their goodbyes to their parents feeling comfortable and happy ready to start the day. I love how the activities of the morning tubs are playbased and hands on. They tap into their creativity, thinking, building, talking, sharing, and problem solving skills\r\nAt each student group table there is a tub with different activities. They play for 8 minutes and have 2 minutes for clean up. Through play, the students are able to work together and socialize while working on their fine motor skills.
