My students all have a disability and need extra supports to help them demonstrate what they are capable of. When students can use tools to get that support instead of needing to rely on an adult, it increases their independence.\r\n\r\nSeveral of the tools I purchased were with one specific student in mind. This student has cerebral palsy so motor skills are challenging for him. Recently we had our annual Thanksgiving Feast. This student often uses his hands to eat. When he uses silverware it often falls off and he makes a large mess or relies on someone else to help him eat. However, with the weighted spoon I got as a part of this project, he was able to eat all by himself and without mess alongside his classmates!\r\n\r\nAnother one of the tools that I purchased with this project were reading pens. Worksheets, no matter what subject area, come with directions to read. Math specifically has a lot of reading required for story problems. My students have been us the reading pens so they can independently listen to the story problem and then complete their work. This has increased how much they can accomplish as well because they are not having to wait for a teacher or class aide to come and read each problem to them.\r\n\r\nThese are just a couple examples of how my students are benefiting from this Donors Choose project. Once again, it could not be possible without donors like yourself who believe in education and that teachers know what is best for their students.","fullyFundedDate":1758988651100,"projectUrl":"project/accessibility-is-awesome/9761577/","projectTitle":"Accessibility is Awesome","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Holm","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp429318_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1694804251889","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-holm"},{"teacherId":9726981,"projectId":8734868,"letterContent":"I am writing to extend my sincere and heartfelt thanks for your generous funding of our self-regulation tools project at SBHS. Your support has made a significant difference in the lives of my students, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share with you just how impactful your contribution has been.\r\n\r\nThe goal of this project was to provide students with access to self-regulation tools directly within their classrooms, reducing the need for them to leave their learning environments in order to manage their emotions or behaviors. In the past, many of my students relied on visits to the wellness center to regain emotional control or calm themselves during times of stress or anxiety. While the wellness center is a valuable resource, these trips often resulted in lost instructional time, disrupted learning, and disconnection from the classroom community.\r\n\r\nThanks to your funding, I was able to implement self-regulation stations equipped with tools such as fidget items, sensory bottles, and other sensory items. These tools are were available to students , allowing them to address their emotional and sensory needs immediately, independently, and without having to leave the room.\r\n\r\n\r\nStudents now have the ability to take quick, self-directed breaks to reset and refocus. Instead of traveling across campus to the wellness center, they can stay within the classroom environment, reducing transition time and helping them maintain a connection with their teacher, peers, and the learning material. This shift has helped to protect valuable instructional minutes, and in many cases, has prevented emotional escalations from occurring.\r\n\r\n Students who previously struggled with staying on task or managing frustration during assignments are now using the tools as a proactive strategy to stay calm and composed. For example, one student who often left class due to sensory overload now uses a set of tactile tools at his desk and is able to stay in class for the entire lesson. A\r\n\r\nBeyond academic impact, this project has also empowered students with self-awareness and self-advocacy skills. By learning how to identify their emotions and use appropriate tools to manage them, students are developing lifelong emotional intelligence—skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\n Your investment in our students' well-being and learning experience has not only enhanced academic outcomes, but also contributed to a more inclusive, responsive, and supportive school environment.\r\n\r\n thank you once again for your generosity. Your support has made a lasting impact, and I look forward to sharing more success stories with you in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1732636851586,"projectUrl":"project/self-regulation-tools/8734868/","projectTitle":"Self-Regulation Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. A.Hernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9726981_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758399763263","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9726981"},{"teacherId":10047247,"projectId":9388100,"letterContent":"Thank you for your incredible generosity and for bringing our calming corner to life. Your kindness and support have made a tremendous impact on our students, and we are incredibly grateful for your contribution.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the new equipment, our players have been able to practice more comfortably and effectively. The fresh socks have been a game-changer, ensuring that our athletes stay comfortable throughout long practices, while the additional sports gear has allowed us to enhance our training and improve team coordination. \r\n\r\nOne particularly memorable moment occurred during a recent team practice. When the girls first saw the new socks and equipment, their faces lit up with excitement. They were so enthusiastic that it inspired an extra burst of energy during their drills. It was amazing to see how something as simple as fresh gear could boost their confidence and motivation. The players felt truly valued, and this has translated into a stronger sense of team spirit.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not only provided much-needed resources but has also shown our students that their efforts are supported and recognized by the community. The donation has had a lasting effect, not just on their skills, but on their overall experience in the program.\r\n\r\nWe look forward to seeing the positive impact of these resources throughout the season and beyond.
