Students I teach are used to class novel being unrelatable, unattainable, and in general 'classics' from a demographic they do not relate to. Every generation should be able to experience the joy of finding classroom materials as interesting and as engaging as material they would reach for outside the classroom. \r\nWhile I cannot provide classroom pictures, student were able to connect to a classic story in THE GIVER by using the graph novel version. By seeing the text in the format they prefer to read, students had a much larger understanding of its underlining theme. they also got to experience the lack of color, and the transition to color as the novel unfolded. \r\nStudents used DRESS CODED in literature circles. By using the novel you purchased, I was able to provide more options and choices to be able to complete an activity like literature circles. For more than 5 years, I never had enough copies of novels to be able to expose students to different types of genres and reading. I work in an area were many of my students are lacking in basic hygiene products and are not able to afford the basics. \r\n\r\nBy providing us the funds for hair brushes, hairbands, deodorant, famine hygiene products, toothbrushes and toothpaste, my school counselor is able to supply our most needy students. I am not always privy to who needs it most, so I work closely with her and my students and I get the supplies. \r\n\r\nMy direct coworkers and I keep the supplies in our cupboards for immediate use for the 170+ students we see daily. The counselor then provides for the other grades. Again we can't thank you enough.
