I wish you could've seen their happy faces while unboxing the glockenspiels! They are playing well known songs like Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and composed some original songs as well. As the teacher, the glockenspiels are the perfect size for transporting classroom to classroom. Students can easily lift and carry them desk to desk or find a comfy spot on the rug. They are working independently, in partners, and small groups to play and compose songs. I am beyond pleased with how fast they picked up skills during practice time. With a little guidance, they place stickers on each key to show the pattern of notes, how octaves are the same note but a different pitch, and how to play songs as duets by working together with the same steady beat. I wish you could see my happy face as a result of how much learning, confidence building, and engaging music time has been!\r\n\r\nStudents are looking forward to expanding their knowledge by composing more original music and sharpening their skills by playing more challenging well known pieces of music. I love their excitement to learn and creativity to enrich their day with the performing arts. They enjoy sharing what they can do and they also know that one moment in time misplaying a note does not define them. They improvise, laugh or say oops and move on. These are important life skills that will help them navigate their personal journey. We all can use more positive self talk during challenging times, so building these habits now is great!\r\n\r\nThank you for making my job easier and improving the learning process by providing the instruments for us all.","fullyFundedDate":1742946867677,"projectUrl":"project/playing-pitch-perfect-percussion/9055645/","projectTitle":"Playing Pitch Perfect Percussion","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Zubak","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9776109_orig.png?crop=1316,1316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743202910976","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9776109"},{"teacherId":9776109,"projectId":8817213,"letterContent":"My third grade students transferred their knowledge of playing the xylophones to the piano keyboards. They loved learning about the extra keys and practiced different hand positions to play single notes and multiple notes together. \r\n\r\nMy special day class students love playing the keyboard. I am practically mobbed at the door if I am rolling in keyboards on my cart into their classrooms. When time is up, they don't want to stop. I get it because I'm the same way! \r\n\r\nMy choir students in fourth, fifth and sixth grade enjoyed matching pitch to the notes on the piano keyboards. Singing a note played on any instrument takes skill. The different timbre throws off beginning students, so it takes time to train their ears. Each week, they look forward to challenging each other in musicianship. They have a lot of fun while learning. \r\n\r\nWe truly appreciate the generous donations given to us to explore music. I use these keyboards for all five schools! For grades K-2, I can accompany myself with the keyboard while singing and teaching songs. It's small and lightweight so not too much work getting it class to class. Most of all, the students are excited to take their learning to a higher level. A few want to accompany their own singing with piano chords, too. Can't wait to see how students progress in a few more months.
