We already had two sets of Base 10 blocks, but they were only enough for small group instruction. My students would watch and wait for their turn, wishing they could all use them at the same time. Thanks to you, every single student now has their own set. The day they arrived, there were actual gasps in the room. I heard, \"Are we going to be able to use those?!\" and saw a few happy claps when they realized they wouldn't have to share. When I handed out their individual pouches with their names on them, they were beyond excited. Something as simple as seeing their own name made it feel special and personal.\r\n\r\nWe immediately began using the blocks for two- and three-digit addition. Instead of just writing numbers on paper, students were building them. When regrouping, they physically traded ten ones for a ten rod and could see why the math works. I've noticed a huge boost in confidence. When I ask students to explain their thinking, they now look down at their blocks, double-check their work, and confidently respond. Evelyn, who used to hesitate during regrouping problems, now eagerly raises her hand because she can verify her answers right in front of her.\r\n\r\nThe document camera has also allowed me to model strategies clearly and showcase student thinking in real time. Our math conversations have become richer, and more students are participating because they feel supported by the tools in front of them. As we move into subtracting two- and three-digit numbers next unit, these materials will continue to make abstract concepts concrete and meaningful. Thank you for giving my students tools that build not only their math skills, but also their confidence and excitement for learning.","fullyFundedDate":1763474803921,"projectUrl":"project/lights-camera-math-action/9849819/","projectTitle":"Lights, Camera, Math Action!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Lemus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9915762"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40471","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":482,"numTeachers":18,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":92,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"26.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":64.7,"schoolId":40471,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Putnam Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Putnam Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/porterville-unified-school-district/west-putnam-elementary-school/40471"}
