The impact on my students has been immeasurable. I have noticed them learning to self regulate and gain confidence as a result of these materials, which is incredible to see. Students who previously needed a lot of one on one support in regulating their emotions during the day have developed the autonomy to recognize their dysregulation and need for calming, take themselves to the calm corner and regulate again.\r\nStudents have been so excited about the materials as they have also seen the growth in themselves. My newcomers and English Learners have made incredible growth in their language and the bilingual library has helped immensely. \r\nI am so incredibly grateful for your donations and the impact it has had on my students. One of the ways that we used/use the materials are in my geography and ELA lessons. When I am teaching geography, I will use my globe to show how far a country or place we are talking about is in relation to California. This has come in handy during my explorers unit, where we are learning about the Spanish, and English explorers that came to California. The globe has also been used as an object in a sensory lesson. Where the students used all 5 of their senses (except for taste) to describe the object. To do this activity, the students used 3 of the donated materials, pencils, a globe and rulers. Some students were trying to even find the diameter and radius of the globe during this activity. \r\n\r\nWhen the students saw the materials, they were very excited! We did an unboxing ceremony where I would open the boxes up one by one, showing the materials inside. Many of the students crowded around the standing desk that I had and were cheering with each item that was shown.\r\n\r\nOne of the next steps in my classroom is the explorers project and narrative writing. We are currently working on identifying the impact of explorers on California and how they have even impacted our community in Paso Robles. We are going to create posters where they can show where these explorers went, what they were after and the struggles they faced. After finishing the explorers unit and the missions, we will have the students write about the day in the life of an explorer. They will have to use the information in the text to create a narrative piece that is filled with a detailed description of the setting, characters, dialogue and the events that the explorers lived through. We have already started our explorers unit, and the students have been super interested in where the Spanish explorers have gone. To finish off the unit, we will have the students create a crest for themselves, describing the main characteristics of themselves, similar to what many explorers and Europeans had.","fullyFundedDate":1758854363419,"projectUrl":"project/first-year-classroom-of-a-4th-grade-teac/9398298/","projectTitle":"First-year Classroom of a 4th Grade Teacher!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Cunningham","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10050646_orig.jpg?crop=3312,3312,x85,y157&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750700735620","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10050646"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_39934","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":400,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":25,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":68,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"21.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":87.0,"schoolId":39934,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Winifred Pifer Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Winifred Pifer Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/paso-robles-joint-unified-school-district/winifred-pifer-elementary-school/39934"}
