My first graders have absolutely loved solving the different mysteries together. Through these breakout challenges, they practiced important skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and reading comprehension. They also strengthened their math skills as they decoded puzzles, used clues to unlock codes, and worked through step-by-step reasoning. Most importantly, they learned the value of perseverance when their first attempt didn't work, they quickly learned to try again and approach the problem from a different angle.\r\n\r\nWhen my students are working in breakout rooms, the classroom is buzzing with excitement. You can see small groups huddled together, whispering ideas, reading clues aloud, and testing out possible solutions. Students take turns leading and contributing. Even students who are normally hesitant to speak up in class find their voice when they're part of a team working toward unlocking the final mystery. These moments have been powerful in showing them how teamwork, persistence, and creativity can lead to success.\r\n\r\nSome of my enrichment students especially thrived during the breakouts. They eagerly dove into the puzzles, often helping their peers see patterns or make connections. It was wonderful to see them shine in an environment where their unique strengths could support the whole class. These activities brought out a sense of confidence and leadership in them that extended beyond the breakout challenges.","fullyFundedDate":1748037628598,"projectUrl":"project/escape-into-learning-breakout-edu-in-ac/9371871/","projectTitle":"Escape into Learning: Breakout EDU in Action","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hong","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp881436_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1505275374881","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/881436"},{"teacherId":1418067,"projectId":9182371,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our Phonics Word Work Small Group Set! These materials have become a valuable part of our daily small group phonics lessons, giving students a hands-on way to build, manipulate, and understand words.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, my students were immediately curious and eager to dive in. They enjoyed exploring the tiles and quickly figured out how to use them on the magnetic boards. It didn't take long before they started building words, testing out sounds, and helping each other come up with new ones.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the tiles in small groups during our phonics block. One recent activity involved students starting with a simple word like \"cat\" and then changing one letter at a time to form new words—*bat*, *bit*, *sit*, *sip*. The visual and tactile nature of the tiles really helps reinforce the connections between sounds and letters.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be using the tiles to work on blends, digraphs, and long vowel patterns. I'm already seeing improvements in students' confidence and independence when it comes to decoding. The ability to physically build and change words has helped make these abstract concepts more concrete.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your support—it's made a real difference for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1746655511600,"projectUrl":"project/magnetic-phonics-building-strong-reader/9221635/","projectTitle":"Magnetic Phonics: Building Strong Readers!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hong","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp881436_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1505275374881","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/881436"},{"teacherId":3063543,"projectId":8767240,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of Scholastic Magazines for an entire year. We are very grateful for everything! \r\n\r\nHaving individual crayon boxes AND a sorted classroom set has been so helpful. Students have been able to have their own box at their desks, and I have been able to use the classroom set in great ways. First of all, it has been an incredible time saver to be able to quickly pass out specific colors for our Word Work activities. For example, when we read a decodable book and we go on a word hunt for specific sound spelling patterns ( for example \"ai\" and \"ay\" for the long A sound), students use the crayons to code each spelling pattern with the same color. \r\n\r\nHaving the supply of yellow highlighters has been wonderful to. We regularly use the highlighters to find our High Frequency Words in our Decodable Books and other paper activities.
