We kicked things off by diving into nonfiction books and videos to study different types of owls and their habitats. Students then used what they learned to create digital slideshows, each showcasing a specific owl species. One of my favorite moments was watching the kids proudly present their slideshows to the class—they were so engaged and eager to share fun facts like \"barn owls can eat up to 1,000 mice a year!\"\r\n\r\nThe moment the new materials arrived—books, sewing supplies, owl pellet kits—the room buzzed with excitement. There were wide eyes and gasps of \"Are we really going to dissect those?!\" The owl pellets were especially thrilling for them. Many had never seen anything like it before, and their curiosity took over. They couldn't wait to see what bones they'd find and figure out what their owl had eaten.\r\n\r\nNext, students are wrapping up their owl research and beginning to sew their own owl stuffies. This hands-on project is helping them connect creatively to what they've learned while practicing fine motor skills. As we finish dissecting the owl pellets, we'll be comparing diets and habitats, then combining all of our discoveries into a final \"Owl Museum\" presentation for families. The students are beyond excited to showcase their learning in so many different ways!","fullyFundedDate":1737573210209,"projectUrl":"project/owl-mazing-crafts-sewing-and-learning/9021810/","projectTitle":"\"Owl-mazing Crafts: Sewing and Learning Science Together\"","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Renee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4509076_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1591137544167","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/oss-renee"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_4548","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":402,"numTeachers":17,"percentFrplEligible":14,"percentAsian":22,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":34,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"23.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":94.1,"schoolId":4548,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ocean Shore School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ocean Shore School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/pacifica-school-district/ocean-shore-school/4548"}
