In donating the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio, you have put books into the hands of our entire 5th grade class! I was able to read the book aloud to the class as they followed along in their new books! \r\n Students were able to read the book the way it was intended, including typographical characteristics, specially formatted sections, and drawings/illustrations that highlight narrators views. As we read Wonder, we also made posters that were called \"Body Biographies\". Students formed groups and worked together to analyze an important character from the book. They analyzed all of the qualities of the character in-depth and created a poster about him/her. The books came in very handy at this time, as students needed to look back so that they could reread to understand as well as cite evidence, and take down important quotes that well!","fullyFundedDate":1744223412203,"projectUrl":"project/wonder-novel-study-for-5th-graders/9205135/","projectTitle":"Wonder: Novel Study for 5th Graders","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Canto-Beaver","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1029318_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1472162436769","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-canto-beaver"},{"teacherId":3275648,"projectId":8779948,"letterContent":"We are so grateful for the materials provided. When the art supplies, Code N Go Robot Activity, and Magnetic Marble Run came, students were very excited to be able to use it. They were eager to help set up the activities and sort the art supplies. \r\n\r\nThe Code N Go Robot activity has been wonderful in helping learn how to problem solve and code. Students use the activity cards to set up the station, and then code the robot mouse to follow the steps in the maze to get the cheese. They worked together to get the steps right and loved watching the mouse move to get the cheese. \r\n\r\nThe Magnetic Marble Run was exciting to follow the challenge cards and try to get the marble down in the correct space. Students worked together using strategies to turn and move the marble run pieces to avoid the blockades. \r\n\r\nStudents also loved receiving all of the art supplies. They were eager to sort and begin using them during our STEAM time to create various craft activities. These concepts can be difficult to get students engaged and willing to take notes on. There are guided notes in which students are more willing to learn and engage with the material when it is presented in a more friendly manner. \r\n\r\nI will continue to use these gift cards to help students access curriculum with engaging content and to differentiate based on student needs.
