Your gift has made a meaningful difference—not only in the materials we have available, but in the way our students see themselves and others through reading.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is more than just decoding words—it's about thinking deeply, building empathy, and making connections. Save Me a Seat gave us the perfect opportunity to do all of that. This story introduced rich lessons on perspective, inclusion, and standing up for yourself. Through the alternating voices of Ravi and Joe, students practiced comparing and contrasting points of view, identifying character traits, and recognizing how cultural background influences personal experiences.\r\n\r\nThe book also opened the door for important conversations about friendship, kindness, and what it feels like to be different. Many of my students were able to see themselves in these characters, whether they've ever been the new kid, felt misunderstood, or wanted to be heard. One English learner in my class shared, \"I feel like Ravi, people don't always get what I mean, but I know I'm smart.\" That moment alone made the book invaluable.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, we now have a story that not only meets learning goals but also opens hearts and minds. Save Me a Seat has become a treasured part of our classroom library.","fullyFundedDate":1742915363880,"projectUrl":"project/books-for-kids/9200232/","projectTitle":"Books for Kids","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9307382"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_54317","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":346,"numTeachers":18,"percentFrplEligible":38,"percentAsian":11,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":36,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"19.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":78.4,"schoolId":54317,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Chapman Hills Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Chapman Hills Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/orange-unified-school-district/chapman-hills-elementary-school/54317"}
