I have taught upper elementary (grades 4 through 6) the past six years, and this year I made a move to 1st grade. I am teaching in a new classroom at a new school with a new teaching partner, and I have the pleasure of spending my days with 30 little people who have a variety of unique personalities and needs. This new rug could not have arrived at a better time!\r\n\r\nOlder elementary students work well at desks and tables. First grade students need lots of opportunity to work at desks, tables, and to learn to focus and listen on the large rug. We use it during story time, calendar routine, phonics lesson time, and working with small groups. The students are learning to sit flat on the floor, keep their bodies inside the squares, and keep their hands to themselves as they work on paying attention to the speaker. Teaching all of these skills is a challenge, but they are slowly picking things up. One of my favorite times of day is science. At that time, I work with a smaller group of students that especially love being on the rug. Thanks again for your kindness.","fullyFundedDate":1753124859357,"projectUrl":"project/everyone-needs-to-belong/9395256/","projectTitle":"Everyone Needs to Belong","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McBrien","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2491222_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1533242347909","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2491222"},{"teacherId":10045653,"projectId":9384387,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of my DonorsChoose project! Because of you, I was able to get 60 copies of Because of Winn-Dixie for my classroom, and I couldn't be more grateful!\r\n\r\nThis gift came at the perfect time, as I had recently moved from a 4th/5th-grade combo to 4th grade. Thankfully, this book fits seamlessly into the 4th-grade ELA curriculum. It's a Level 3.9 on the Accelerated Reader system we use, making it just right for my students' reading levels. The class cannot wait to take the quiz on the book and receive 3 AR points! \r\n\r\nBecause of Winn-Dixie will help my students grow in so many key areas: identifying main characters, their traits, making inferences, having deeper discussions, including asking meaningful questions. These skills are all essential parts of our 4th-grade standards, and the book supports them in an engaging and accessible way.\r\n\r\nMy students and I are incredibly grateful for your kindness. Your support is making a real difference, not just this year, but for many years to come. I can't wait to continue sharing this story with future classes.","fullyFundedDate":1749746050068,"projectUrl":"project/because-of-winn-dixie-novel-study/9384387/","projectTitle":"Because of Winn-Dixie Novel Study","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Craig","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10045653"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_92496","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":426,"numTeachers":17,"percentFrplEligible":80,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":88,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"25.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":65.2,"schoolId":92496,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cambridge Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cambridge Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/orange-unified-school-district/cambridge-elementary-school/92496"}
