When the materials arrived, students instinctively clapped before I could even explain what they were. Whiteboards around the room are now filled weekly with student thinking, questions, and revisions as students work together to solve problems. Other days, they serve as memo boards for positive messages and art expressions that liven up the class and give students agency. Having consistent access to paper, pencils, and organizational tools has also made a noticeable difference; students can focus on learning and problem-solving. This especially in a district with students whose families cannot always provide school supplies at home.\r\n\r\nOne of the most impactful pieces of this project has been the Apple Pencil you helped fund. While many people use technology at home, in our classroom it serves a specific instructional purpose: helping students see math clearly, providing color with animations, and to revisit learning when they need to. With a stylus, I am now able to model problem-solving digitally using color, diagrams, and visual cues, and then quickly upload those notes to Google Classroom. Students regularly reference these notes during class and at home, plus when we take any quizzes or tests which are open note. This has been especially powerful for students who benefit from visual supports, need extra processing time, or were absent and need to catch up.\r\n\r\nI have seen students who often struggle with note-taking or organization become more engaged and willing to participate because the materials and technology reduce barriers to access, specifically the ability to zoom in. As small of a change as this seems, being able to move around a page and zoom in or change pen sizes and colors on the fly provides visual assistance in our over-crowded classes which causes students to sit far away from our tv. They now have a chance to see clearly and have access to notes later on their own device.\r\n\r\nAs for the wipes, we have maintained a cleaner classroom. I regularly have students do a wipe down on our desks to help out the custodial staff and provided a safer environment. One of my students is a post-leukemia patient and being able to keep work spaces clean is important. Although I myself am writing this sick (what can I say, I am only in my second year after all!), I know we have been able to keep the room neater and more comfortable. Your generosity has helped create a classroom where students feel supported, capable, and included in the learning process. Thank you for believing in my students and for helping make math a more active, collaborative, and equitable experience for them.","fullyFundedDate":1755709064739,"projectUrl":"project/getting-mathematicians-started/9553648/","projectTitle":"Getting Mathematicians Started!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Linares","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10161205"},{"teacherId":10243754,"projectId":9687925,"letterContent":"Because of your support, we received healthy snacks and Gatorades, walkie-talkies, and a first aid kit. \r\nLet me share how each of these gifts positively impacted the athletes. First and foremost, your generosity showed them that they matter and are valued by people they haven't even met. That realization brings a sense of pride, commitment, and higher expectations into their lives.\r\nThe healthy snacks helped nourish the athletes before and after practice when they needed a pick-me-up or something to replenish them. The enjoyed the variety of snacks, there was something for everyone. The Gatorades were also a welcome treat. The athletes loved the taste.\r\nThe walkie-talkies help tremendously with communication between parents, athlete, and myself before, during, and after races. You always hope you never have to use a first aid kit, but you're incredibly grateful to have one when it's needed. One student asked, \"Is all this really for us?\" Their eyes lit up at the sight of the Play-Doh, and they immediately began using it during calm-down times and for hands-on learning activities. It's become one of their favorite tools for focus and creativity.\r\n\r\nThe fruit snacks have been a huge hit as a form of positive reinforcement. In the past, we've really struggled because we didn't have the proper equipment to train. Without things like hurdles, training parachutes, or even reliable stopwatches, our practices were often limited to basic drills, and we couldn't give our athletes the full experience they deserved. It was frustrating because we knew we weren't reaching our potential, but there wasn't much we could do with the resources we had.\r\n\r\nNow, though, it feels like a whole new world. Thanks to the amazing support from the DonorsChoose community, we've got all these incredible tools that make such a difference: adjustable hurdles, speed training parachutes, and even a collapsible wagon to carry everything around. We finally have what we need to help our athletes push themselves and grow. It's like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders. And the stopwatch timers? They've made timing sprints so much more accurate, which is huge for tracking progress.\r\n\r\nBut honestly, what hits us the most is knowing that there's a whole community out there that believes in us. It's not just about the equipment; it's about the fact that people care enough to invest in our team's success. It's a huge boost, and it makes us feel like we're not alone in this. We're incredibly grateful, and this support has fired us up to give it everything we've got.
