The new books, including series like Percy Jackson, The Inheritance Games, The Ghost series, and They Both Die at the End, have helped students connect reading to their own interests in mystery, fantasy, adventure, and real-world emotional stories. These texts are supporting important skills like making inferences, analyzing character development across a series, identifying themes, and tracking how plots and relationships evolve from book to book.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom now looks more independent and student-driven. Students are actively choosing books from these series, sticking with characters over multiple books, and having real conversations about plot twists, predictions, and author choices. It has been exciting to see students recommending books to each other and getting deeply invested in finishing a series. During reading conferences and small groups, students are more willing to discuss complex ideas because they are actually interested in what they are reading.\r\n\r\nWhat has stood out most is how these books have increased engagement for students who were previously reluctant readers. Series like Percy Jackson and The Inheritance Games have especially hooked students who enjoy action, mystery, and fast-paced storytelling, while They Both Die at the End has sparked thoughtful conversations about life, choices, and perspective. Many students who once struggled to stay focused during independent reading are now asking for \"just one more chapter\" or looking for the next book in a series. This project has truly helped build a stronger reading culture where students are excited, motivated, and proud of themselves as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1772464416294,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-love-of-reading-one-book-at/10054355/","projectTitle":"Building a Love of Reading, One Book at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ashlie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10345675_orig.jpg?crop=1395,1395,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762560275747","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10345675"},{"teacherId":10345675,"projectId":9882793,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our classroom printer has already made a meaningful difference in how my students learn and share their work. Having a printer in our classroom allows students to immediately print their writing and projects so they can revise, edit, and reflect more carefully. Being able to hold their work in their hands helps them see their growth and take greater pride in what they create.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students has been watching their ideas come to life on paper. They are eager to share their printed work with classmates and take it home to their families. Some of my quieter students have especially gained confidence from seeing their work displayed, which has encouraged them to participate more. Your support has helped give my students a stronger sense of ownership, pride, and excitement about learning.
