The students were especially fascinated by xiangqi — it has quickly become a class favorite, sparking curiosity and friendly competition.\r\n\r\nAs we prepare for Lunar New Year, your gifts will play a meaningful role in transforming our classroom into a festive and immersive space. The lanterns will brighten our walls with warmth and tradition, and the students are already talking about how much they look forward to decorating. Looking ahead to our cultural rally in December, the fans and lanterns will be featured in our performances, helping our students bring Chinese art and culture to life on stage.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting our Mandarin program and for believing in the value of cultural learning. My students and I have been putting the new resources to great use in our classroom. One of our favorite projects has been our \"Voices of Our Journeys\" writing unit, where students use the new books and materials to explore their personal stories and cultural experiences. It's been incredible watching them open up, share memories, and connect through their writing.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were so excited. Some of them immediately started flipping through the books, pointing out pictures that reminded them of home. One student even said, \"This looks like my town!\" and in that moment, I saw their confidence and curiosity grow.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're preparing for a classroom showcase where students will share their finished stories with peers and teachers. The picture books you helped provide have made such a beautiful and lasting impact on my newcomer students.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, English is brand new, and books are their first doorway into understanding this new world around them. Picture books have become a bridge of comfort and confidence. They allow students to explore stories through both words and images, helping them make connections and find meaning even when the language still feels unfamiliar.\r\n\r\nOne of my students, in particular, has really touched my heart. He's a quiet boy who had just arrived from another country and often kept to himself. For the first week after the books arrived, he chose to spend every lunch in my classroom, sitting by the bookshelf, reading quietly. Each day, he picked a new story, sometimes tracing the pictures with his finger or asking what certain words meant. I watched his confidence grow with every page. Now, he volunteers to read aloud in class, something I never imagined he'd feel comfortable doing so soon.\r\n\r\nMoments like these remind me why these resources matter so much. They're not just books; they're tools of belonging, hope, and discovery. My students feel seen, capable, and inspired. The books have opened a new world for them, giving them stories they can understand and connect with as they practice English. During a recent reading circle, students were able to follow along and even take turns reading aloud with pride. The notebooks and folders help them stay organized, which is so important as they balance learning a new language and adjusting to a new school environment. These resources are giving them structure and confidence in their daily learning.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was immediate. Many of my students come to school with very little of their own, so receiving new books and supplies felt incredibly special. I saw smiles, heard laughter. For them, these weren't just supplies, they were signs that someone cared about their learning journey.\r\n\r\nRight now, my students are using these materials to build their English reading and writing skills through short stories and journal writing. The next step is for them to create their own simple stories in English, using the vocabulary and sentence structures they've been practicing. Thanks to your support, they now have the tools and the confidence to take that next step. The gift of these resources gave them hope, and that hope is fueling their determination to keep growing every day.","fullyFundedDate":1755743614469,"projectUrl":"project/supplies-that-spark-hope/9431202/","projectTitle":"Supplies that Spark Hope","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rodriguez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9339898_orig.png?crop=716,716,x235,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1698248590680","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9339898"},{"teacherId":9057053,"projectId":9275795,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to Books and Snacks! Your contribution has truly made a difference in our learning experience.\r\n\r\nDuring our summer school session, my students had so much fun using the new crayons and markers. They were excited to use the vibrant colors in a variety of math activities, including an Equation Maze where they worked together to solve equations and find their way through the puzzle. These colors helped them stay engaged and made the learning process more interactive and enjoyable. Additionally, the students used the markers for their System of Equations Project, where they created visual representations of equations, which made the abstract concepts come to life.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the creativity that these markers inspired will continue into the new school year. My students will be using them to create anchor charts and presentation slides for various projects, allowing them to visually represent their learning and share their insights with the class. I'm excited to see how their creativity and problem-solving skills continue to grow with these new tools.\r\n\r\nOn more thing I would like to share with you is a brand-new Mandarin program I am launching this upcoming school year! The Mandarin course will be filled with exciting projects and immersive activities, designed to provide my students with a comprehensive learning and exploration in both the language and the cultures. The resources you've provided will help enhance the hands-on, creative projects that will play a key role in this learning journey.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is deeply appreciated, and I can't wait to see how these new resources continue to enrich our classroom experience. I've noticed that some students who received a notebook have shown increased effort in their work and greater motivation to focus during lessons.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the excitement among the students when they learned we received more calculators was palpable. They are now also spending time outside of the class earning additional money through a wide variety of activities (such as helping in their house, attending a school event, and spending time off their phones by reading, exercising, and volunteering in their community). One student has been so engaged with this that he has had enough money not to just buy (have a deed) to his desk but to several of his peers desks as well. \r\n\r\nThe next steps with this project are to further students understanding of finance.
