The trampoline is now part of our daily schedule, and students are able to request a break to jump when they feel dysregulated or overwhelmed. A standout moment has been watching students independently advocate for themselves by asking for a trampoline break, then returning to class calm, regulated, and ready to learn. \r\nThe students were extremely excited, especially when they saw the balls and movement equipment. Their faces lit up with joy and curiosity. We've strengthened our physical development time by playing games like kickball and catch, which encourage coordination, teamwork, and gross motor skills.\r\nSome of our students specifically need to push, pull, or carry heavy objects to feel grounded and organized. The wagon has been especially impactful—it allows students to engage in heavy work while also having fun with peers. This not only supports self-regulation but also builds social skills, confidence, and independence.\r\nOur next steps include continuing to embed these regulation tools into academic lessons and transitions throughout the day. We are working on helping students recognize when they need a regulation break and choose the appropriate tool independently.","fullyFundedDate":1765228128970,"projectUrl":"project/stronger-bodies-brighter-minds/9942206/","projectTitle":"Stronger Bodies, Brighter Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Owens","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2991913_orig.jpg?crop=228,228,x0,y8&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758567283244","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2991913"},{"teacherId":2991913,"projectId":9748214,"letterContent":"Our students have been using the Primary Concepts Letter Formation Sand Tray during our daily literacy centers, and it has quickly become a classroom favorite! The tray allows students to trace letters with their fingers, helping them connect movement with letter formation. This tactile experience is especially meaningful for students with autism, as it supports their sensory needs while building fine motor control and letter recognition. One of my students who typically struggles to focus during writing activities now stays fully engaged when using the sand tray—she loves the texture and the visual feedback it provides.\r\nWe also received dry erase boards/markers/erasers, which the students use every day to practice writing their names, drawing pictures, and forming basic shapes. The boards make learning interactive and less intimidating, allowing students to easily erase and try again. During morning meetings, students proudly hold up their boards to show their work, and the excitement on their faces is priceless.\r\nWhen the students first saw the Kinetic Sand, their faces lit up with curiosity and excitement. They all wanted to go to the writing center which was a delightful change. For my students with autism, the new textures and hands-on materials have made big difference in engagement and comfort. The dry erase boards were also an instant hit—students loved having their \"own\" board and marker, which made practice time feel personal and fun. Our next step is to continue integrating these tools into our pre-writing and fine motor development lessons. Thanks to these resources, students are not only improving their writing abilities—they're gaining confidence and joy in the learning process.","fullyFundedDate":1758679683197,"projectUrl":"project/future-authors/9748214/","projectTitle":"Future Authors","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Owens","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2991913_orig.jpg?crop=228,228,x0,y8&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758567283244","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2991913"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7286","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":148,"numTeachers":5,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":22,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":58,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"29.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.6,"schoolId":7286,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Wilshire Crest Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Wilshire Crest Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/wilshire-crest-elementary-school/7286"}
