I have calming music and visuals on the board during meals, center activities, and free choice. This gives my students an opportunity to engage with music, while regulating their bodies in preparation for pre-academics.\r\n The Smart Board provides access to stories and songs for my visually impaired student. He can now see the visuals and particpate in music and movement activities. Students also listen to preschool songs and imitate language and hand motions presented on our Smart Board. It integrates with my laptop computer and allows me to display activities such as, sorting, matching, and letter/number identification. Students can complete these hands-on tasks on a verticle surface which strengthens motor skills.\r\n Thank you for the sit and twist seat cushion. It took some time to reach us and the district finally installed it, but it's up and running and my students love it! The SMART board is not only a great focal point with warm, calming music playing upon arrival, but everyone enjoys it throughout the day. I like to keep the lights a little dim with background music during mealtimes, free choice, and rotations and it seems to keep my students in a calm state (most of the time). With the varying abilities in my classroom, some students struggle with regulation and the music along with the visuals have proven to be quite calming. \r\n\r\nBecause the board is interactive, students love scribbling on the board, changing the colors of the pen (their fingers), identifying shapes and letters and seeing their \"drawings\" up on the BIG screen. I have one student with visual impairments and he very much enjoys the visual effects that the large screen provides. Animated stories have become a favorite as well as the many preschool YouTube videos associated with the alphabet and counting. It's been fun finding Halloween themes to go along with our Circle Time songs. Music and Movement have also been a big hit as students seem very engaged and following along to more than just their teacher modeling for them. \r\n\r\nOverall, my preschool special ed students are improving their motor skills, cognition, social skills, literacy, and communication all at the same time. The CD player has also been a welcome addition as my old one finally gave out and stopped working. The hoops encourage them to move their bodies while practicing important locomotor skills. \r\nThe colorful parachute allows our class to engage in active cooperative play. Students learn to follow directions and they love running under the parachute when it is floating in the air. The Giant Tower game can be used indoors or outdoors and students enjoy building with the blocks and playing games like Jenga. \r\nThe rings are a vital resource for my class. With inclement weather in full force, my students are able to access the refreshing water table full of developmentally appropriate toys for their enjoyment while practicing many skills in their development. \r\n\r\nWater tables and toys are highly beneficial for preschoolers, offering a rich, multi-sensory experience that promotes cognitive skills, social-emotional development, physical development, and language skills. Children learn both fine and gross motor skills through pouring, scooping, and dumping as well as balancing and using their core strength to hold their bodies in an upright position. Many of my preschoolers have gross motor delays and using the water table for stabilization is a big help to keep them upright. Preschoolers are also encouraged to use communication to get their wants and needs met and to engage in turn-taking. Water tables stimulate creativity through open-ended play and help with emotional regulation due to the calming nature of water. \r\n\r\nIt has been quite fun to add different water toys to the rotation, including, but not limited to fish and nets, washing dishes with an assortment of sponges and bubbles, ice cubes and large spoons, turkey basters for squirting, and an assortment of toys for dumping and filling. These resources are now a consistent part of our routine, helping students transition into sessions more calmly and confidently with a lot more motivation.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students with sensory processing differences, staying regulated is a foundational need. When their sensory needs are met, they are more attentive, more motivated, and better able to access and work on their speech and language goals. I've noticed increased participation, longer attention spans, and a boost in communication attempts since incorporating these materials.\r\n\r\nOne student who previously struggled with transitioning into speech therapy now begins each session by choosing a calming sensory item. After a few minutes of self-regulation, he's more engaged and focused—and we've seen steady progress in his expressive language. Another student who experiences high levels of anxiety has found comfort using the breathing pal and the weighted bear, and now initiates more social communication with peers during group activities. The room divider has improved students' attention and participation in therapy sessions. \r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students.
