The combination of wellness tools and creative technology has given my students concrete ways to manage stress and re-engage with challenging work. Instead of staying stuck in frustration, they now have structured options to move, refocus, and then return to reading, writing, and discussion with a clearer head.\r\n\r\nThe fitness and wellness tools have been especially powerful for helping students with high energy or anxiety. Short, guided movement breaks using the equipment have become a normal, positive part of our routine, not a punishment or something that singles students out. Students come back from these breaks more regulated, less fidgety, and more willing to participate. Many of them say they feel \"reset\" or \"less overwhelmed\" afterward, and I see that in their body language and in the quality of their work.\r\n\r\nThe technology pieces—especially the tools connected to creative design and games—have made learning feel relevant and fun. Students love that they can interact with content in ways that feel more like the tech they use at home, but with a clear academic purpose. The most exciting part for them is the sense of ownership: they get to create, experiment, and see immediate results, whether that's a finished product or a score that reflects their improved skills. A few students who were often disengaged have especially warmed to this, eagerly volunteering to use the tech, helping classmates, and proudly sharing what they've made. Their confidence has grown right alongside their academic skills, and that change has been one of the most meaningful impacts of this project.","fullyFundedDate":1769886802654,"projectUrl":"project/calming-strength-wellness-and-creativit/10049908/","projectTitle":"Calming Strength: Wellness and Creativity Tools for My Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Anguiano","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9687115_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730922964595","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mranguiano"},{"teacherId":9687115,"projectId":9897028,"letterContent":"When our under desk treadmill arrived, my students—especially those on our sports teams—were immediately excited. They couldn't wait to try it out, curious to see how it would fit into our classroom routine. Within days, it became a favorite spot for students to walk while reading, reviewing plays, or even refining academic goals during study sessions. Seeing their faces light up as they realized they could stay active while learning was a reminder of how powerful movement can be for engagement and motivation.\r\n\r\nWe now use the treadmill as part of our \"Active Focus\" program, where student athletes take turns walking during independent work time to keep their energy up and their concentration sharp. It has been especially helpful during long class periods after early morning practices or late games, allowing them to stay alert and productive. Students have reported feeling more focused and less fatigued, and it's even sparked great conversations about wellness, training recovery, and balance between sports and academics.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to integrate this movement-based learning into a health and goal-setting unit, where students track how physical activity impacts their focus and mood. This project has truly changed the flow of our classroom—bringing energy, mindfulness, and a stronger sense of community. Thanks to your generosity, our student athletes are learning not just how to perform on the field, but how to take care of their minds and bodies every day.","fullyFundedDate":1763583732772,"projectUrl":"project/moving-minds-moving-feet-athletic-exce/9897028/","projectTitle":"Moving Minds, Moving Feet: Athletic Excellence","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Anguiano","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9687115_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730922964595","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mranguiano"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_131233","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":587,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":66,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":3,"gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":85.7,"schoolId":131233,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Virtual Academy Ldrshp & Public Service on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Virtual Academy Ldrshp & Public Service","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/virtual-academy-ldrshp-public-service/131233"}
