When the new markers, pastels, and colorful supplies arrived, students were genuinely amazed—some could hardly believe the materials were for them to use. The excitement was contagious; our classroom quickly filled with the sound of creativity in motion.\r\n\r\nWe've been using these resources to explore literature in deeply personal ways. Recently, my students have been designing prototype masks inspired by Romeo and Juliet, using color and shape to represent both their \"daily selves\" and their \"alter egos.\" It's been incredible to see how thoughtfully they connect emotions, character motivations, and symbolism through their designs. The oil pastels, markers, and unique crayons have given them the means to bring those inner ideas vividly to life.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generous support, our classroom feels alive again—with color, energy, and artistic purpose. The displays held by our new magnetic clips and framed by bright bulletin borders now pulse with student pride. Every time I look around, I see learners who feel seen, valued, and inspired to push the boundaries of creativity within our English lessons.","fullyFundedDate":1753973834103,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-learners-with-creative-supplies/9509712/","projectTitle":"Engaging Learners with Creative Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mendez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8988511_orig.jpg?crop=986,986,x325,y176&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724972052802","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/miss-mendez"},{"teacherId":9081890,"projectId":9250395,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donations for my students. For you have helped with Fostering Reading in East Los Angeles! Thanks you, all 9th grade English Classes now have access to more reading materials to choose from when deciding what they would like to read. This is absolutely crucial to the East L.A. student population. Your gift to my project fostered Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Community in the classroom, and Passion from and for Reading! While critically thinking, students were tasked with discussing deeper challenges and connections in the texts they were able to choose from. For Collaborating & Community, students built a sense of community in the classroom via discussion on topics from new texts provided where they also learned to respectfully agree and disagree with one another, and students put their academic language to use! In terms of passion, students showed this through discussions about what they were reading to the point where they didn't want the class Socratic Seminar (discussion) project to end! Thank you again for allowing students access to modern texts that they are interested in reading.","fullyFundedDate":1726808125044,"projectUrl":"project/fostering-reading-in-east-la/8687866/","projectTitle":"Fostering Reading in East L.A.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mendez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8988511_orig.jpg?crop=986,986,x325,y176&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724972052802","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/miss-mendez"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_106900","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":130,"numTeachers":15,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":96,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"8.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.4,"schoolId":106900,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Boyle Heights STEM Magnet High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Boyle Heights STEM Magnet High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/stem-academy-of-boyle-heights-open-8-2014-/106900"}
