The Scholastic Action magazines have become a favorite in our classroom. Students love that the stories are high-interest, relevant, and written at a level where they can truly feel successful. We've been using the magazines to build key reading skills such as identifying the main idea, summarizing, and making inferences. The texts have also sparked thoughtful discussions and helped students see themselves as real readers.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and hands-on. Students use their Sharpies to annotate texts, highlight vocabulary, and circle spelling patterns as we work through our word study lessons. The plastic pouches have made it easy for everyone to keep their materials neat and ready to use, which has helped us spend more time learning and less time searching for supplies.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was seeing a student who used to avoid reading eagerly open the newest Scholastic Action magazine and start reading aloud to a partner. These resources have transformed reading time into something my students look forward to. Thank you for giving them the tools and the confidence to keep growing as readers. The pencils, pencil pouches, highlighters, and deodorant you provided were the perfect welcome gifts for our 6th grade orientation, where we had the joy of welcoming our new 6th graders to campus. Thanks to your help, we've created a \"No-Tech Zone\" in our classroom where students can go during free time to engage with the new games and building materials. Students work together on puzzles, play card games like Phase 10 and UNO, and use LEGO bricks and Magna-Tiles to bring their creative ideas to life. It's become a space for collaboration, conversation, and stress-free fun that supports social-emotional growth and problem-solving skills.\r\n\r\nTheir faces lit up with excitement when they saw your donations! Many couldn't believe the games and materials were just for them. Students immediately started pulling games off the shelf, forming groups, and asking, \"Can we play now?\" It was pure joy—lots of laughter, teamwork, and even a little friendly competition. One student said, \"This is the best part of school now.\" \r\n\r\nWe'll continue using these materials to strengthen teamwork and social skills, and we're also tying them into our advisory lessons around mental health and positive relationships. As students learn more about healthy ways to cope with stress and connect with others, the No-Tech Zone will be a daily reminder that we all need time to create, relax, and enjoy being in community—without screens.","fullyFundedDate":1746468979313,"projectUrl":"project/the-unplugged-zone-where-creativity-com/9304335/","projectTitle":"The Unplugged Zone: Where Creativity Comes to Life","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Baker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10010322_orig.png?crop=524,524,x0,y3&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746063315099","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10010322"},{"teacherId":4522601,"projectId":9310683,"letterContent":"Thanks to your incredible generosity, our classroom is now stocked with healthy snacks—and the difference it's made has been immediate and amazing! As you probably know, middle schoolers are always hungry, and my students are no exception. Before, I had kids coming up to me throughout the day asking if I had anything to eat. Now, I'm able to offer them nourishing options that keep them full, focused, and ready to learn. It's truly a game-changer for both their well-being and their ability to concentrate in class.\r\n\r\nThe moment the snacks arrived, my students' eyes lit up! They were so excited and thankful, and it was clear how much this meant to them. We've already made the snacks part of our daily routine—whether it's a quick grab in the morning, a boost before a quiz, or a quiet break during a tough day. These small, healthy bites are building a sense of care and community in our classroom. \r\n\r\nThanks to you, we're not just feeding bellies—we're fueling minds. Students are learning how to work together, think critically, and practice good sportsmanship—all while having so much fun.\r\n\r\nThese games have become more than just play—they're teaching tools that help students collaborate, solve problems, and take a break from constant screens. My elective class was absolutely thrilled to make slime. Not only was it a fun and engaging hands-on activity, but we were also able to incorporate some math skills—using a scale to measure grams of glue and practicing fractions with measuring spoons for the baking soda and activator. The best part? This was a project they suggested, and thanks to your kindness, we were able to bring their idea to life!\r\n\r\nWhen my students saw the materials laid out, their eyes lit up. Many of them excitedly guessed what we'd be making before I even said a word! They had such a great time experimenting and creating their own slime.
