Several of them immediately asked if they could sit wherever they wanted. It was a moment of pure bliss and curiosity. \r\nRight away, the classroom felt more like their space, a place designed for them to feel comfortable and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nSince then, we've been using the new seating every day. Students love grabbing a lap desk and fold out chair and finding a quiet corner to work. The yoga chairs have been a game changer for students that struggle with sitting still allowing them to focus longer without constant breaks. \r\n\r\nThank you, not just for your generosity, but for your belief in the importance of education and for your faith in teachers and students. Your donation is not only a gift of furniture, it is a gift of opportunity, choice, comfort, and dignity. You have helped transform our classroom into a space where students feel empowered to learn in the ways that fit them best. For that, I am endlessly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1750293732054,"projectUrl":"project/a-better-seat-for-a-better-student-exper/9370701/","projectTitle":"A Better Seat for a Better Student Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bowman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bowman-classroom"},{"teacherId":3106178,"projectId":9307369,"letterContent":"When the new math manipulatives and sensory toys arrived, my students' faces absolutely lit up. The moment we unpacked the colorful counters, place value blocks, and tactile number lines, they were eager to explore. One student excitedly said, \"This feels like a game!\"—and that's exactly what I hoped for: learning that feels joyful.\r\n\r\nA specific moment that stood out was during a small-group math lesson on addition strategies. Students who often hesitated to participate became fully engaged, using the manipulatives to build number sentences and check their work. The sensory toys gave them a way to regulate their energy, so they could focus longer and feel confident sharing their answers with the group.\r\n\r\nNext steps: We're using the manipulatives to dive deeper into understanding place value and number sense. Students will soon be creating their own \"Math Toolkits,\" choosing the manipulatives that help them most, so they can use them independently during centers and problem-solving challenges.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students aren't just learning math—they're building confidence, collaboration skills, and a love for problem-solving. From stress balls to textured fidget tools, these resources have become a go-to support for students who need help staying grounded during lessons. One memorable moment was during a group reading activity—students who often struggled to sit still were able to stay engaged and participate more fully just by using a small sensory ring. When the materials were first introduced, the students' faces lit up with curiosity and excitement. They eagerly explored the textures and shapes, and we had a thoughtful class discussion about how everyone has different needs and tools to help them learn best. Due to cost, most student materials are printed in black and white with drawings that maybe have some color. Scholastic News and Science Spin are full color \"magazines\" with real life photography that expose my students to a world beyond what they are able to experience given their circumstances. Scholastic News shows real people persevering through difficulties and inventing new things! It provides the opportunity to see nonfiction text in technicolor which makes everything more exciting! Additionally, we have watched videos and used the graphic organizers to develop writing skills around such fascinating topics as shark teeth, clouds, rainbows, and Radish Night! This inspired us to grow our own radishes! Science Spin is similar but with a science tilt. The students are clamoring to read their magazines and then use the amazing science materials to test out their skills as scientists! You have really brought their education to life! I had one student who often did not really want to come to school but she looks forward to her turn to use the science materials now and is not so reluctant to come. Once we finish using the magazines in class, they go home where family members can learn as well and continue the conversation!\r\n\r\nThe amazing \"Can Do\" science kits are bringing so much joy and inspiring really interesting conversations about speed and force! The kits around light and magnets and scientific observations are helping the children to be more observant about their environments and to see ordinary things in fresh ways. The sink and float kits have been a tremendous hit! We have learned new words like buoyancy, tip, positioning, and the difference between a sailboat and a row boat! Each kit comes with a variety of experiments in kid friendly language so the students are able to choose which activities interest them the most. \r\n\r\nYou have truly blessed us with so many interesting and inspirational topics to explore!\r\nAgain, thank you so very much for being a champion of children, teachers, and public education.
