We immediately set up a small group activity where they could take turns building with the magnetic blocks while others worked on puzzles, and it was incredible to see how engaged and focused they were. The seat cushions have also made a huge difference in helping them stay comfortable and calm during lessons.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students are to keep using these resources daily as part of our learning routines. Whether it's hands-on problem solving with puzzles, sensory regulation with the cushions, or imaginative building with the blocks, these tools are helping create a more supportive and interactive classroom. If we discover additional needs along the way, I'll definitely create another project to keep growing our learning space.\r\n\r\nThank you very much, we truly appreciate it.","fullyFundedDate":1746465614008,"projectUrl":"project/piece-by-piece-puzzles-for-learning-and/9061892/","projectTitle":"Piece by Piece: Puzzles for Learning and Growth","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. E. These books have been a wonderful addition to my sessions, and I've used them many times to support a variety of goals. They make teaching expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language skills much more engaging and enjoyable for the kids.\r\n\r\nI've also been able to create worksheets based on the stories to target different skills. The sets that include small doll pieces have been especially popular—the children love interacting with them while we read. Similar to the Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly story sets, these props provide a helpful visual and make the experience of reading and discussing the story even more meaningful.","fullyFundedDate":1746472114206,"projectUrl":"project/books-and-interactive-stories/8843601/","projectTitle":"Books and Interactive Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shir","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8130269_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1686774223918","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8130269"},{"teacherId":9798917,"projectId":9322037,"letterContent":"When my students are feeling down or need a break, they go to our calming corner to use the new pillows. When I first introduced the new activities to my students, their faces lit up with excitement—they couldn't wait to start exploring them.\r\n\r\nThese materials have made social-emotional learning more engaging and accessible for my students throughout the school year. I love seeing their enthusiasm as they anticipate which game we'll play each day, all while developing valuable skills that will benefit them now and in the future.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, having ready-to-use resources for teaching social-emotional skills has greatly reduced the stress of creating new activities, allowing me to focus more on directly supporting my students. As a teacher in an AUT classroom, visual supports and individualized materials are essential, and this technology allows me to create those quickly and effectively. I can print customized visuals, schedules, social stories, and task cards tailored to each student's needs—and then laminate them for durability and repeated use.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students the most is seeing materials that reflect their interests—like laminated visuals with their favorite characters or personalized reward charts. They love how colorful and sturdy everything is now, and some even ask to help with the laminating process as part of a class job, which gives them a sense of pride and responsibility.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular used to struggle with using the restroom independently. With a laminated step-by-step visual guide posted in the bathroom, he's now able to follow the routine with much more confidence. This simple tool serves as a gentle reminder for him and has helped build his independence in a really meaningful way.","fullyFundedDate":1735663966425,"projectUrl":"project/essential-tools-for-visual-learning-in-a/8868039/","projectTitle":"Essential Tools for Visual Learning in a Special Education Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. E. I am so grateful that we were given such wonderful resources to support learning and our morning routines. \r\n\r\nEvery morning we are able to start our day with our calendar circle time together where the students get to go over the calendar as well as the schedule for the day and what we will be learning that day. Each day I give my students a morning work page which they complete as soon as they come into the room to support routine as well as get them prepared to do work for the day. Each activity has a letter that we focus on writing and working on the sounds associated with that letter. With our Calendar Time board, I am now able to connect the letters from our morning work to our circle time and bring the sounds to life as a whole class. The students can practice their counting as well as their letter sound correspondence to begin each school day. \r\n\r\nI have also been able to integrate the social emotional learning activities throughout the school day when they are needed to support student emotional regulation. The students have some of the resources always available to them such as the breathing boards and the emotional scales. We are able to incorporate cards and other activities after our breaks to help provide regulation for the students. We will continue to use these resources in our daily school days and build on the skills we have already been doing.","fullyFundedDate":1722709789664,"projectUrl":"project/gather-around-its-circle-time/8506331/","projectTitle":"Gather Around, It's Circle Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Baumgarten","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6122701_orig.jpg?crop=2711,2711,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1597447636513","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6122701"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7188","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":293,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":86,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":93.4,"schoolId":7188,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Arlington Heights Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Arlington Heights Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/arlington-heights-elementary-school/7188"}
