These are long stretches of days where students need other activities to look forward to when they come to school knowing they will be in class testing for a period of time. We have focused on ensuring that we utilize as much positive social emotional supports for our students, no matter how big or small.\r\nThese contributions may seem small but it definitely puts a smile on all the faces of our students who get to look forward to these events. Now, my students are so eager to learn as they enter my math intervention classroom each day. They run in to choose one of the flexible seating options, (cushions and individual floor tables). This simple option of seating for individual and group work has increased engagement and student interest in the math lesson! \r\n\r\nIn conjunction with these flexible seating options, students now have an array of hands-on math tools that support multiplication, division, and place value! Every year, I notice the change that students have. They become invested in their jazz artist and make this project their own. I see how they listen to different music, try to understand the artists, and try to make jazz connect to themselves. The students select an artist and read up on them; I have noticed that they especially love Nina Simone, Sonny Rollins, Louis Armstrong, and Billie Holiday. With the selection of books, they have been able to learn about these artists and many more that they might not be able to be exposed to in the future. \r\n\r\nThank you for letting me share the love of Jazz to my students every year. Even if it is a small exposure, I know my students enjoy it and really learn about this subject.
