Thank you so much for providing the resources to fun our DBQ Project. Through your donation I was able to receive training and implement a great unit with my students.\r\n\r\nMy students analyzed primary source documents to answer the question: \"Why did so many early Jamestown colonists die?\" They learned how to read and annotate 5 documents. They analyzed how each of these documents contributed to their understanding of the question. \r\n\r\nAfter much classroom discussion, students wrote a thesis statement with three different reasons to prove the answer to the question. They matched evidence from the primary source documents to the three most significant reasons that so many early colonists died. Then, they learned how to organize and write a 5 paragraph argumentative essay.\r\n\r\nThis was an incredibly rigorous activity! I am so glad I got the opportunity to take them through the experience. As you can tell from the photos, they wrote extensively about this topic! I know this unit has set them up for success in middle school and beyond.\r\n\r\nThere are SO many more amazing units in the DBQ binder that I did not have a chance to teach this year, but definitely will in the future. Your generosity has made this all possible.","fullyFundedDate":1731089058267,"projectUrl":"project/help-fund-our-5th-grade-dbq-project/8704057/","projectTitle":"Help Fund Our 5th Grade DBQ Project","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wilson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp410739_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1455207404494","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-erin-wilson"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_27400","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":601,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":22,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":49,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"23.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":93.8,"schoolId":27400,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lowell Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lowell Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/long-beach-unified-school-district/james-russell-lowell-school/27400"}
