Your generous contribution has transformed the learning environment for my students, especially those with ADHD who often struggle with traditional seating arrangements.\r\n\r\nThe impact of these chairs has been immediate and profound, moving beyond mere comfort to become an essential tool for self-regulation and academic success.\r\n\r\nEmpowering Students Through Choice\r\n\r\nFor my students with ADHD, the need for movement is constant, and forced stillness often leads to frustration and behavioral outbursts. The three new bean bag chairs are not just furniture; they are safe, comfortable havens that empower my students to manage their own needs.\r\n\r\nThe chairs serve two critical functions:\r\n\r\nA Low-Stakes Time-Out Spot: When a student feels overstimulated or restless, they now have a designated, comfortable place to take a quick, self-initiated break. Because the space is inviting and not punitive, they can successfully regulate their emotions and sensory input before a minor distraction escalates into a major behavior issue.\r\n\r\nFlexible Focus Seating: The nature of the bean bag chairs allows students to shift, wobble, recline, or even lay on the floor while still being engaged in their work. This therapeutic movement is often the key that unlocks their ability to focus, allowing them to complete tasks that rigid chairs previously made impossible.\r\n\r\nThe True Measure of Success\r\n\r\nThe most significant benefit has been the boost in student self-esteem. By choosing a seat that better suits their neurological needs, they are actively managing their own behavior and creating their own conditions for learning. This sense of agency and control has shifted their perspective from feeling like they are constantly \"in trouble\" to feeling successful and capable.\r\n\r\nSince implementing the bean bag chairs, we have seen:\r\n\r\nA noticeable decrease in minor behavioral conflicts and disruptions.\r\n\r\nIncreased student ownership over their learning environment.\r\n\r\nGreater pride in their finished work, as they know they successfully focused and managed their needs.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for seeing the value in flexible seating. Your donation has not only provided three comfortable chairs but has given several students the daily opportunity to feel successful, confident, and understood in their classroom. You've truly helped build brighter, more focused futures for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1755058377616,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-to-support-my-add-wiggl/9566726/","projectTitle":"Flexible Seating to Support My ADD Wigglers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Leah Perez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9172498"},{"teacherId":634319,"projectId":9476286,"letterContent":"The students see snap together building pieces and electronics and their excitement immediately reaches high levels! This kit has it all; including incredible lesson ideas! I am so excited by the potential of the climate action kit. We are a little behind where I thought we would be at this point in the year so I've only let one group of students explore the kit so far. The amount of interest in the lesson ideas that come with the kit is definitely enough to know that the students are going to create some incredible projects and collect awesome data using the kits sensors. \r\n\r\nI hope to be able to have students design projects to incorporate into our school's garden allowing us to collect data that ties to our projects on food production and also weather. So far, the students have built a model windmill. They are figuring out how best to use it to collect data and maximize the amount of electricity they can generate from the windmill. We know this doesn't sound like an exciting project to fund but we definitely use the materials everyday and at least one student will comment on how kind it is that someone cared enough about their learning to support the class with such basic items!\r\n\r\nThe refillable tape dispensers have been a fantastic time saver because now every tape group has one for their table. Students only need to share with their own table group and adding their graphic organizers, graphs, and drawings to their notebook has become much more efficient. This frees up at least five extra minutes in the class period for learning time! Five minutes in a 51 minute period is a big deal!\r\n\r\nThe pencil sharpener is an incredible addition to the class also and students are taking great care in maintaining it so we will have it for many years to come. \r\n\r\nThe students haven't seen the colorful hot glue sticks yet. I have saved those for their upcoming engineering build project next month. I know those will be a huge hit and will add some cool artistic value to their builds! In order to encourage collaborative learning for these class periods, students have been earning stars towards the class goal and they met that goal yesterday for one of the class periods.\r\n\r\nEven though the bell was about to ring, the students wanted to select their prize from the box. That's how powerful these positive behavior prizes have been. Thank you for making it possible to offer such fun and desirable options for the students!\r\n\r\nIn my 6th grade classes, individual students have been earning their prizes as recognition for behaviors that show respect towards their peers' learning.
