In planning his visit, I wanted kids to have the opportunity to win a book of his with the hopes that they would read the book if they won one. Tickets were filled out and names were drawn. Our 6th graders' excitement could not be contained! Every student who won a book was cheered on by their classmates. Many of our Special Day Class kids won, and for them, that was really special. They got to be a part of something that might not happen in their daily lives. Matt stopped by after school and one of the kids came up to him, asking him to put a personal note in the book he won. \r\n\r\nWhen I look back and see who won the books, it was quite a mix. Some kids who won are very strong readers and will enjoy the books. Some, like my SDC kids, may or may not read the book or will have a family member read to them. Others were my non readers. Getting books into the hands of some of my non readers was important. Many students do not have books in their homes or have the money to afford to purchase them. It is my hope that owning a book will encourage them to read it.\r\n\r\nThank you again for funding my project.
