This helps students learn responsibility, goal-setting, and the importance of making positive choices.\r\n\r\nStudents are excited about the class store and enjoy choosing rewards they can use at school or at home. Items like LEGO sets, slime, pens, and other small prizes help motivate students to stay engaged and do their best each day. I have been wanting to get this quiet area privacy cube for the longest but I had not been able. I had it in another classroom classroom that I worked before and I knew my students need it one. I had a cute rug and some pillows but as soon as I put it in my classroom it was an instant hit. My students knew how to use the area but having this cute cube added more interest in my calm area.\r\n \r\n My students can escape the high demands of school for a five minutes at a time during class. They can access it as need it. They are encouraged to go when they are tired, sad, angry, frustrated or they just need a break. I have some pillows, books, and a basket full of fidgets that they can use while they are there. I also have some posters about feelings and what to do when they are sad, frustrated or tired. \r\n \r\nI am going to continue to work on this area to make it as supportive as possible to help my students to find an area in my classroom where they can reflect on them and their needs. As a new teacher I had almost nothing to start my new role as a transitional kindergarten teacher. As an educator, I know that art provides a significant cognitive, social and emotional benefits, improves critical thinking, problem solving and creativity. My students loved to use these materials as they were learning to recognized letters, learn about each other's differences and qualities. We also learned about math and number sense. \r\nThe first project that I provided was a representation of themselves through a paper plate in which children were able to paint using skin color paint. It was very insightful to see children be so motivated to recognize who they were by using art materials such as wiggly eyes, yarn, pom poms to create their project.\r\nAnother experience that they loved was to use scented marker which they were able to use to perfect their fine motor skills. They also use the dot marker as they learn about letters.
