It has been one of the best ways for the students to demonstrate the letter sounds learned, put to use in spelling out three-letter words created with the materials provided by the project's donors like you.\r\n\r\nWhen I introduced the prepared materials to my students for the first time, their faces lit up as smiles formed from ear to ear in anticipation. The materials included: various laminated pictures of three-letter words such as \"cat, pen, sun\", etc., dry erase markers with which to write in the words under the picture, and erasers. Not only do they LOVE using the dry erase markers and erasers, but they were also very excited about being able to show that they could write simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, which many could not do at the beginning of the school year. It was especially a proud and cute moment to watch students work in pairs supporting one another!\r\n\r\nAs the students are beginning to write full three-letter sentences now, the next step is to provide materials to support sentence writing. I am so excited for them! There is magic in the laminated mats for these kiddos! The healthy snacks you funded have helped ensure that no child has to go through the school day hungry. For a brief moment teachers had nutritious options available for students who needed a boost of energy or missed breakfast, and we saw an immediate difference, students were more focused, calm, and ready to learn. These simple snacks truly helped nourish both bodies and minds throughout our classrooms.\r\n\r\nThe social-emotional learning materials have also been a huge success. Our new calming tools, mindfulness games, and SEL books are being used in classrooms, small groups, and counseling sessions. Students are learning how to take mindful breaths, identify their emotions, and practice kindness with one another. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of third graders use the new \"calm-down corner\" items to help a classmate who was feeling frustrated, they reminded him to \"use his breathing ball\" and worked together to problem-solve. These small moments reflect big growth in empathy and self-regulation.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, our next step is weaving these SEL lessons into more structured classroom activities and continuing to create a campus culture where every student feels seen, supported, and valued. Your kindness has strengthened our school community and given 560 Kelseyville Elementary students the nourishment and emotional tools they need to thrive. In our project description, many students in our class were focused on one sport during PE time. I wanted to help them broaden their thinking on several types of fun activities to exercise their muscles.\r\n\r\nWhen the equipment arrived, we chose to work with the comet balls first. This equipment brought high excitement and engagement from all the children in the class. We used the comet balls in our relay race section of our playground and had a throwing competition. The objective of this game was to exercise large and small muscle groups as well as strengthen hand eye coordination.
