Many of my students have learning disabilities that make reading challenging and frustrating. These reading pens provide immediate support by reading words and text aloud, helping students decode unfamiliar words, build vocabulary, and work more independently. Instead of waiting for an adult to help them, students can confidently keep learning on their own, which has increased both their engagement and their confidence.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part has been watching students realize that they can successfully tackle books and assignments that once felt overwhelming. The reading pens have quickly become one of the most requested learning tools in our classroom. Students are eager to use them during independent reading, small-group lessons, and classroom assignments because they make reading feel more accessible and less intimidating.\r\n\r\nSome of my students who were previously hesitant to read have shown the greatest growth. Students who often avoided reading or became frustrated are now volunteering to read, attempting more challenging texts, and persisting when they encounter difficult words. The confidence and independence these tools have given my students are gifts that extend far beyond reading. Thank you for believing in them and investing in their success. Your kindness has opened new doors for learners who simply needed the right tools to shine.","fullyFundedDate":1746786052114,"projectUrl":"project/all-students-deserve-access-to-literatur/9074927/","projectTitle":"All Students Deserve Access to Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dunagan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9630316_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1783038405512","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9630316"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_34355","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":587,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":35,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":50,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"26.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.4,"schoolId":34355,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Helendale Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Helendale Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/helendale-school-district/helendale-elementary-school/34355"}
