Many of them previously had to share or go without calculators, which made it difficult to explore more complex problems. Now, every student can participate fully in lessons involving graphing, exponential growth, trigonometry, and real-world applications.\r\n\r\nThe technology has helped students focus more on problem-solving and less on basic arithmetic, allowing them to see patterns, test ideas, and check their reasoning immediately. It's helped bridge the gap between conceptual understanding and accurate computation, which is especially valuable in our Integrated Math courses.\r\n\r\nStudents are most excited about being able to work more independently and confidently. They love discovering features they didn't know existed—like scientific notation, fraction conversions, and trigonometric functions—and using them to solve challenging problems.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who had always struggled with multi-step equations, now eagerly grabs a calculator and proudly explains his process to others. Having equal access to reliable tools has boosted both his confidence and his willingness to take risks in problem solving.\r\n\r\nThese calculators have empowered my students to think critically, collaborate more effectively, and feel capable in a subject that can often feel intimidating.","fullyFundedDate":1755521966118,"projectUrl":"project/multiply-our-potential-with-new-calculat/9533936/","projectTitle":"Multiply Our Potential with New Calculators","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Darling","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8635871_orig.png?crop=1024,1024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754411891309","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/darlingmath"},{"teacherId":8635871,"projectId":9540222,"letterContent":"When my students first walked into the classroom and saw the new set of whiteboards stacked neatly at their tables, their faces lit up. They immediately wanted to try them out, and within minutes, we had a lively math review session going—students working in pairs, sketching graphs, solving equations, and even holding up their boards to compare strategies. The energy in the room was different—hands were moving, ideas were being shared, and students who don't usually speak up felt comfortable participating.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was during a lesson on solving systems of equations. Instead of just working out problems in notebooks, each student wrote their solution on the board and held it up. This made it easy to spot common mistakes, celebrate creative approaches, and get the whole class involved in discussion. Students were laughing, erasing, trying again, and encouraging each other in real time.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, these whiteboards have become a daily tool in our math class. They make practice more interactive, give every student a voice, and help me check for understanding quickly. Our next steps will be using them for more group-based math challenges and review games, so students can continue to build confidence while collaborating. Your support has given my students a way to learn math that feels fun, personal, and engaging—and we are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1757421802027,"projectUrl":"project/mini-boards-major-thinking/9540222/","projectTitle":"Mini Boards, Major Thinking!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Darling","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8635871_orig.png?crop=1024,1024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754411891309","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/darlingmath"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53927","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1515,"numTeachers":62,"percentFrplEligible":37,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":48,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"24.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":89.7,"schoolId":53927,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Hills High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Hills High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/grossmont-union-high-school-district/west-hills-high-school/53927"}
