My students absolutely love the carpet, and I love how it brings us together for learning. \r\n\r\nWe used to do our opening and closing circles standing up around the desks in the room because my students didn't want to sit on the floor. The first day the carpet arrived, they circled up around the edges of the carpet. The carpet is huge, so amazingly, we all fit. Circle time feels more intimate now and students are quickly building relationships as a result. \r\n\r\nWe also use the carpet for direct instruction time. The carpet is in the front of the room, so students either sit on the rug or in chairs around the rug during instruction. Having the kids closer to me means I can monitor their attention better. Transitioning between the rug and their desks also gives my students a built in body break between activities. \r\n\r\nAnd finally, we use the rug as an alternative reading and work space. This is the students' favorite use. They enjoy spreading out with a book on the rug. They prefer doing small group interventions on the rug rather than at a table, and they love to work sitting next to their friends on the rug. \r\n\r\nThe carpet you helped donate has truly been a magical addition to our classroom. We appreciate you.","fullyFundedDate":1760326164426,"projectUrl":"project/magic-carpet-for-magical-learning/9723437/","projectTitle":"Magic Carpet for Magical Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tucker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5216240_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1523949802384","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/rebekah-tucker"},{"teacherId":9463816,"projectId":9448900,"letterContent":"Thank you for the generous gift of our class novels! This has provided us with the opportunity to join the love of reading with language arts and science. As we dive into the novel, we examine the story elements, theme, literary devices, and build our vocabulary through word study activities. \r\n\r\nWe bridge this with science as we learn what a keystone species is and the importance of balance within an ecosystem. The story gets students interested in a topic as it is made relatable to them by the main character who is about their age. We will be concluding the novel study with Nature Journals in which the students go outside weekly to observe the ecosystem in which they live with binoculars. This helps our young adults develop strong habits of observation which leads to questions and (hopefully) investigations! We will also be completing a project in which students investigate the effects of the loss of a keystone species in a particular habitat, which will foster their analytical skills. \r\n\r\nThe fact that the students have a personal novel and set of binoculars means the world to them. They rarely see a new textbook and many had never been exposed to binoculars before. They are so much more invested with these tools.","fullyFundedDate":1753043920951,"projectUrl":"project/the-secret-language-of-birds-deep-dive/9448900/","projectTitle":"The Secret Language of Birds: Deep Dive","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. France","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9463816"},{"teacherId":5216240,"projectId":9670105,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting our classroom by donating math flash cards! Both my students and their families appreciate these cards. In our classroom, each table group has a set of flashcards they now use to practice daily. In addition to our flash card routine, students use these cards as an early-finisher option. They love when they get to practice their math facts!\r\n\r\nParents also appreciate the flash cards. Students are able to bring a set home nightly and practice math facts with their families. As a teacher, it is a relief to be able to offer them this resource. I can send home whichever facts with which the student is most struggling and know that they will receive extra support. \r\n\r\nI can already feel the difference routine math fact practice is making in our daily math lessons. Fewer students are struggling to answer basic computation questions and more students can complete lengthy algorithms in a timely manner. Because of your generosity, my 4th graders will have a successful year in math. The joy and excitement in the room was unbelievable. My students were \"tears-of-joy happy\" to be holding a new book provided just for them. Of course, we started reading right away. Thirteen pages later, the bell rang for dismissal and students filed out to murmurs of, \"Best book ever!\" and, \"May I take it home to read over the weekend?\" (Yes, of course!).\r\n\r\nAs we read through the book this week, it's amazing to see how willing and eager even my most reluctant readers are to participate. They tolerate answering comprehension questions, even willingly flipping back through the book to find text evidence, because they know that when they are done, we get to read more. \r\n\r\nToday we read the part where the wild robot camouflages herself to survive the wilderness. It ties in beautifully with our science standards. To solidify their understanding of \"camouflage,\" students camouflaged the robot collage they made yesterday. They reread the chapter multiple times to really understand what the robot did as they created their artwork. I'll share photos to show you the process. \r\n\r\nI'm really excited to see how much my students grow as we read The Wild Robot.
