Our vision from onset was to create an inclusive space for students to explore and communicate with their peers. Our garden has grown beyond a space outside of the classroom. It is an alternative choice and place for students to regulate their emotions, be outdoors, and take breaks. We are so grateful for everyone's support with our garden project as students continue learning important life skills for growing and maintaining a garden.\r\n\r\nAll of our students with moderate to severe disabilities were given choices to vote what they wanted to grow using communication boards. They have watered their seedling bottle trays and transplanted their lettuce, carrots, and squash seedlings into the raised beds. Our students have communicated the steps with their Augmented and Alternative Communicative Devices and low tech communication boards regarding their actions and observations. We have followed steps to harvest lettuce and used recipes to create delicious salads for students to enjoy. Our next steps would be harvesting kale, squash, and carrots. We also will be growing herbs and berries to incorporate into our cooking life skills curriculum. As the seasons change, our Eagle's Garden will continue providing opportunities for our students to learn and communicating with others.","fullyFundedDate":1730405615328,"projectUrl":"project/intermediate-special-education-garden/8872001/","projectTitle":"Intermediate Special Education Garden","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Scott","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9800630"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_91753","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":506,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":77,"percentAsian":36,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":53,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":"20.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.4,"schoolId":91753,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dr Walter C Ralston IS on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dr Walter C Ralston IS","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/garden-grove-unified-school-district/dr-walter-ralston-interm-school/91753"}
