These new books allow us to teach Foundational Literacy alongside Critical Thinking. For our 3rd graders, we focus heavily on \"Character Studies\"—learning how to track how a character's feelings change from the beginning of a story to the end. Meanwhile, our 4th graders are taking those same texts and \"digging deeper\" into theme and symbolism. By using the same high-quality books for both grades, we create a shared language where the older students can mentor the younger ones, explaining complex plot points while sharpening their own leadership and communication skills.\r\n\r\nThe students who are enjoying these books the most are often those who used to say they \"weren't readers.\" Because these stories feature diverse protagonists and modern problems—like navigating friendships or moving to a new town—students are finding \"mirrors\" of their own lives on every page. One of my favorite things to witness is a student who previously struggled with focus becoming so engrossed in a chapter that they don't even hear the bell ring for recess. These books aren't just teaching them how to read; they are teaching them how to love stories, which is a gift that will stay with them long after they leave the 3rd and 4th grade.","fullyFundedDate":1764738215556,"projectUrl":"project/bravery-beyond-the-cheese-a-literary-qu/9905344/","projectTitle":"Bravery Beyond the Cheese: A Literary Quest","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ceja","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10354188_orig.jpg?crop=1736,1737,x0,y480&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1763518753339","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-ceja"},{"teacherId":2807968,"projectId":9019903,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations towards our First Theatrical Production of the Jungle Book!
