The technology also allows students to record themselves reading, which has been incredibly valuable. Students are able to listen back to their recordings and reflect on their prosody, fluency, and expression, helping them identify areas for growth and make meaningful improvements.\r\n\r\nStudents are especially excited about the independence the headphones provide. They love being able to work on their personalized lessons, record their voices, and hear their own progress over time. Another exciting feature is the ability to record presentations before presenting to the class, allowing students to watch themselves, reflect, and build confidence before sharing their work. This has made learning feel both empowering and engaging for students.\r\n\r\nYes, many students have greatly benefited from the headphones—especially those who are easily distracted, English learners, and students who need additional practice or confidence. The headphones help create a calm, focused learning environment where students can concentrate on the task at hand. These students are more confident, more willing to participate, and better able to reflect on their learning without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The technology has truly supported students in becoming more independent and self-aware learners.\r\n\r\nThank you to our generous donors for supporting this project and investing in our classroom. Reading time has become something my students truly look forward to, and the donated books have helped create a welcoming classroom library that invites curiosity and exploration.\r\n\r\nYes, several students who were previously reluctant readers have shown a noticeable increase in confidence and enthusiasm. What may look like a simple machine has truly transformed the way my students view reading.\r\nWe are using the machine as part of our Accelerated Reader (AR) program. Every time a student earns 5 AR points, they get to spin the machine and receive a small prize. That simple reward has created a powerful sense of motivation and excitement around reading. Students are setting goals, tracking their points, and encouraging one another to read more so they can earn their turn.\r\nI will never forget the moment I introduced the machine to my class. When they first saw it, their eyes lit up and the room filled with cheers. Immediately, students began asking, \"How many points do I have?\" and \"Can I take a quiz today?\" Even some of my more reluctant and underperforming readers—students who previously avoided independent reading—were suddenly eager to pick up books. Seeing them feel proud of earning points and confidently taking AR quizzes has been one of the most rewarding parts of this project.\r\nThe impact has been especially meaningful for our struggling readers. Many of these students need extra encouragement to build stamina and confidence. The vending machine provides an attainable, short-term goal that keeps them engaged. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by long-term testing goals, they focus on earning their next 5 points. That consistent motivation is helping them read more frequently, improve comprehension, and build fluency.\r\nThis increased reading practice is directly supporting our school-wide standardized testing goals. As students spend more time reading independently and comprehending texts at their level, we are seeing growth in vocabulary, comprehension skills, and overall reading confidence. The excitement around AR points has translated into more focused reading time and greater perseverance with challenging texts—skills that are essential for success on standardized assessments.\r\nCurrently, students are working toward personalized AR goals tied to their reading levels, and we are celebrating milestones along the way. Our next steps include incorporating more small-group discussions about the books students are reading so they can deepen their comprehension and critical thinking skills. The vending machine continues to serve as a catalyst, encouraging students to stretch themselves and reach for higher-level texts.\r\nYour support has done more than provide prizes—it has created a culture of motivation, goal-setting, and joy around reading.
