I am competing with student's screen time. I needed more high interest books. While I have a good collection of books ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade level, students start to lose interest less than halfway through the year. I noticed that they love graphic novels! Our library has a limited number of copies. They are often the ones that get checked out first! I could see their disappointment whenever their favorite series had been checked out. My high readers started losing stamina... bored. That's when I knew that I had to get some of their favorites into my personal classroom library. I chose Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Dork Diaries. When I signed up through Donors Choose, I never imagined that I would get selected to get these two series! When I told the students when I received the books, the whole class roared with excitement.\r\n Since I added these books to my library, I have seen children who didn't read much started reading more so they could increase their reading comprehension. Students with lower AR levels started setting goals to increase their word counts. I have two students who I never imagined would want to read always choose to read during fun Fridays. Now they literally could not put a book down. Both of these students improved their AR levels by over two years within 6 months! One of my students started reading the Diary of the Wimpy Kids series during the second week of March 2025. He is currently in book number 16. He has two more books left from the series that was donated! When he first started reading this series, he told me, \"Mrs. Olson, my goal is to read all of the Diary of the Wimpy Kids you have by the end of third grade!\" I didn't doubt him. We have about two weeks left in our school year. I am so excited to see so many \"bookworms\" in my class. Both series: Diary of the Wimpy Kids and the Dork Diaries are loved by readers in my class! Thank you so much for donating the books. You have made a world of difference.","fullyFundedDate":1727206462371,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-strong-high-interest-class-l/8441223/","projectTitle":"Building a Strong, High Interest Class Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Olson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9563318"},{"teacherId":9515301,"projectId":8320598,"letterContent":"Thank you for helping make learning fun for my students.
