I am a new teacher at Capri Elementary this year and the feeling of being welcomed and supported by donors in my community and friends in my personal circle has been amazing. The funds you generously donated helped me purchase a \"kidney\" table for my classroom.\r\n\r\nI am fortunate enough to work in a very large classroom. Once upon a time, it was a kindergarten classroom. Thus, it is made for lots of little bodies. I knew, when I entered, that I needed a space to work closely with my small groups of students rather than have them sit at separate tables. While kidney tables are great for small group work, they don't come cheap. That's where you all came in!\r\n\r\nThe table has been a place of cooperation, hard work, fun, laughter, and learning so far this year. I gather around this table with 27 groups of students ranging from kindergarten through sixth grade each week. We learn new terms, practice vocabulary, create projects, and have a great time working closely with one another. While it may be just a table to some, it is a place of community and collaboration for us. Thanks to the generous support from our donors, we kicked off our \"Building Words, Building Minds\" project by launching our first Scrabble tournament on May 30th. We started with a team-based format to build collaboration and strategy skills. It was incredible to see how engaged the students were—not only were they practicing spelling and vocabulary, but they were also developing critical thinking and sportsmanship.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, my students were thrilled! The excitement in the room was contagious—they were immediately pulling out tiles and brainstorming words. Several students even started planning Scrabble strategies during recess. They were so grateful and inspired that they came up with the idea to host our first-ever Capri Scrabble Tournament next school year!\r\n\r\nWe're continuing to build word knowledge and foster a love for language through weekly Scrabble challenges. Next steps include creating word walls from high-scoring Scrabble plays, incorporating vocabulary from content areas, and preparing for next year's school-wide tournament. The energy this project has brought into our classroom is unmatched, and we can't thank you enough for making it possible!","fullyFundedDate":1747968679885,"projectUrl":"project/building-words-building-minds/9359947/","projectTitle":"Building Words, Building Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Matthew Mason","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9879048"},{"teacherId":9565126,"projectId":8695413,"letterContent":"Thank you for a memory that will last a life time! We started the unit by reading Firenze's Light, then discussed how unique we each are. We learned about how all our different strengths (our lights) create a beautiful picture like the stars in the night sky. But the real show stealer was the end of the unit which culminated in a Glow Day Art Project that blew students minds. \r\n\r\nIt was like they were walking into another universe as they stepped into our black lit classroom and put on their glow bracelets. Once inside, students moved through stations of glowing learning games, highlighter coloring and fun. The most exciting was the glow paint station! Using the wonderful neon paints you donated, students created glowing hand print art that highlights a few of the things that make them unique and wonderful friends. At the end of class, students got to add a glow in the dark star anywhere in the room to represent how they contribute to our community with their light. At the end of the week, we had over 600 stars up in the room!! Students got to see how adding their one small light, helps bring together a much bigger picture. Impact is doing your small part to create a much bigger whole!\r\n\r\nI've never had so many students come up to me at the end of class and tell me that I'm the \"best teacher ever!\" But it wasn't just me! It was all of you! Thank you so much for the light you shared with our school through your donation!
