The new books from the Empowering Young Minds: SEL, Literacy, and Hands-On Learning project have transformed the way my students read, think, and connect with one another.\r\n\r\nEach story we explore introduces essential social-emotional learning lessons, empathy, resilience, self-awareness, and kindness ,while also helping students strengthen key literacy skills like inference, comprehension, and making text-to-self connections. For many of my students, these books serve as mirrors and windows: mirrors that reflect their own lived experiences, and windows into the lives of others.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now looks like shared conversations in small groups, interactive read-alouds on the carpet, and student-led reflections in journals. We often pause to ask, \"How would you feel in this moment?\" or \"What lesson can we take from this character's experience?\" Those questions have sparked powerful discussions and a deeper understanding.\r\n\r\nA few students who were once hesitant readers are now the first to grab a book during independent reading time. One student told me, \"This book feels like me, like my life.\" That simple statement reminded me how powerful representation in literature truly is.\r\n\r\nYour support has given my students more than books, it's given them a safe space to learn empathy, build community, and see the power of their voices through stories. Thank you for believing in the magic that happens when we pair strong literacy instruction with meaningful, real-world lessons.","fullyFundedDate":1746787268650,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-young-minds-sel-literacy-a/9194380/","projectTitle":"Empowering Young Minds: SEL, Literacy, and Hands-On Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Melinee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7367098_orig.jpg?crop=860,860,x720,y163&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1717003816424","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msmelinee83"},{"teacherId":7367098,"projectId":8549221,"letterContent":"Scholastic News has been a game-changer in my classroom!
