This support is something we are actively celebrating through the work our students are able to create, and the gratitude is shared widely among both students and staff.\r\n\r\nHaving access to these supplies has opened doors for our students to create, dream, and explore. Many of our students are not art majors; they have chosen this program as an elective and are often surprised by how powerful the act of creating can be. What begins as making something quickly becomes something much more meaningful — an opportunity for students to better understand who they are, to see themselves, and in turn, to better see and understand others.\r\n\r\nThrough these shared creative experiences, we are building small communities within our classrooms. One of the most rewarding moments is watching students light up when larger projects are launched. The recent \"little theater\" project, in particular, has received an incredibly positive response because it offers opportunities for everyone to shine.\r\n\r\nLast semester, students created a cast of characters from found objects and paired them with a set design model built from cardboard and other materials made possible through this generous grant. The imagination, collaboration, and pride that emerged from this work was truly inspiring.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and for providing the resources that allow creativity to flourish. Your support has had a lasting impact, and we are profoundly thankful.","fullyFundedDate":1762792337067,"projectUrl":"project/learning-from-doing-collaborative-mini/9699440/","projectTitle":"Learning From Doing / Collaborative Miniature Theater","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kough","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10220431_orig.jpg?crop=1853,1853,x0,y234&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757390597935","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10220431"},{"teacherId":10220431,"projectId":9646529,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your unwavering support of our students and their love of the arts. Because of your generosity, we were able to accomplish so much more this year than we ever imagined possible. The dreams were always there—what we lacked were the supplies to bring them to life. Thanks to you, those dreams have become a vibrant reality.\r\n\r\nEach year, we take on a few key projects, including set design and special pieces for our annual art show. Typically, we rely heavily on basic supplies and recycled materials to make these projects happen. This year, those resources were running low, but your donation made all the difference. We were able to purchase not only the essentials, but also some exciting additions like paint for our classroom mural, paint sticks, stickers, wood materials, clay, and new paint markers.\r\n\r\nWhen I kept bringing in boxes each day, it was like a birthday for ALL the kiddos. They were so thrilled and couldn't wait to see what was inside. I must say, I was pretty excited too. The best... was hearing them instantly come up with ideas of what to create. \r\n\r\nOur first major project was completing our collaborative school mural in the art room—a truly joyful undertaking. The students began by exploring photographs of nature, studying local mural work, and discussing keywords that reflected what a successful year together might look like. Each student then contributed their own design, which we collaged into one cohesive mural. Classes practiced color theory and learned efficient painting techniques as they brought the design to life. The mural is nearly complete, and the enthusiasm students feel in this colorful, creative space is inspiring.\r\n\r\nOur second project involved constructing 3D \"Noah's Arks.\" Using a mix of found and purchased materials, students created imaginative versions of Noah and his boat of animal friends. These delightful creations will be featured in our annual end-of-year art show and have been one of the most fun and detailed projects we've ever done.\r\n\r\nFinally, we've begun preparations for our musical production season. Each grade puts on its own show and designs its own sets. Fridays are now dedicated to set design, where students brainstorm ways to visually support the stories told through acting and singing. Every class creates backdrops and props—a process that requires an incredible amount of supplies. Thanks to your help, every student can continue to participate fully in this beloved tradition. This experience gives them a taste of real-world creative collaboration, problem-solving, and the joy of using their skills to serve a community.\r\n\r\nYour support has not only enriched our art program but has also nurtured vital life skills—teamwork, independence, and creative problem-solving—qualities that are increasingly rare in our fast-paced world. More than anything, the arts teach students how to express themselves, to be seen and heard, and to understand the value of their own voices. That is truly priceless.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our students and the power of the arts. Your generosity continues to make a lasting impact here every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1762267552697,"projectUrl":"project/basics-for-building-creativity/9646529/","projectTitle":"Basics for Building Creativity","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kough","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10220431_orig.jpg?crop=1853,1853,x0,y234&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757390597935","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10220431"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_121345","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":935,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":31,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":21,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":35,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":53.2,"schoolId":121345,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about California School of the Arts-San Gabriel Valley on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"California School of the Arts-San Gabriel Valley","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/duarte-unified-school-district/california-school-of-the-arts-san-gabriel-valley/121345"}
