Thanks to your generous support, we now have beautiful, accessible garden boxes right outside our classroom. For many of my students with moderate to severe disabilities, this has been their first time digging in soil, planting something with their own hands, and watching it thrive.\r\n\r\nThe best part? This project isn't just about plants—it's about ownership, responsibility, and connection. One of our students who rarely engages in group activities now runs to check on the tomatoes every morning, proudly announcing whether they need water or if something new has sprouted. We've been using the garden as a living lab for science lessons, sensory exploration, and even communication practice (you'd be amazed how many core words you can teach with \"dig,\" \"water,\" and \"look!\").\r\n\r\nNext up, we're integrating the garden into our life skills routines. Students are learning how to harvest, clean, and prep veggies for simple classroom snacks. Your donation didn't just build a garden—it helped create new opportunities for independence, teamwork, and joy. Thank you for making it possible.","fullyFundedDate":1746208554735,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-grow-a-sensory-garden-for-all-l/9302725/","projectTitle":"Help Us Grow: A Sensory Garden for All Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hoodye","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8175479_orig.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1644720134543","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8175479"},{"teacherId":9303879,"projectId":8999860,"letterContent":"The materials that we have received as part of this project have been a great help. We have been picking up trash weekly using the supplies and the campus is looking very clean. The students were not excited when I told them that we would be picking up trash to keep our campus clean until I showed them that they would be able to use the grabbers and buckets in order to make it more sanitary. They were thinking they would have to pick up the trash with their hands. Once they saw the buckets and grabbers they were excited to get to work and keep the campus clean. I also get asked frequently if we are going to go out and pick up trash. We are trying to turn this into a weekly habit and in fact one of our trash pick up days landed on Earth Day. We have also been trying to collect data on what types of trash and how much trash we are picking up so that we can come up with a better and more creative solution to make sure the garbage gets to the proper place that it needs to go. \r\n\r\nIn addition to being proactive and picking up trash we are also going to begin to design signage to promote a clean campus and proper disposal of the trash that is found on our campus. This will give the students a chance to exercise thier creativity and create a culture of cleanliness around campus. We believe that a clean campus promotes campus pride and that is our goal with this project in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1739633163680,"projectUrl":"project/campus-care-and-creativity/8999860/","projectTitle":"Campus Care and Creativity","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Davenport","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9303879_orig.png?crop=748,748,x298,y64&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1695665390719","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9303879"},{"teacherId":8175479,"projectId":9253043,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom has come to life in a whole new way! The games and interactive activities have transformed how our students engage during social-emotional lessons, indoor movement breaks, and peer-led group work. One of the biggest hits has been using the new screen for student-led presentations—they're learning how to share ideas, give feedback, and support one another in a collaborative setting.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students lit up with excitement. Several of them immediately started brainstorming how we could organize game days, recycling routines, and sensory-friendly stations using the new tools. The recycle/trash combo bin also kicked off a great conversation about sustainability, which turned into a class-led effort to sort and reduce waste during lunchtime and classroom clean-up.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're working on a student-led initiative that combines all of these elements: planning community clean-up days and creating short video tutorials (with the screen!) to share with other classes about reducing waste and being kind to the environment. This project is helping students grow as leaders, teammates, and thoughtful contributors to our school community.\r\n\r\nThank you for being part of something that goes way beyond supplies—you helped us build momentum, joy, and purpose.","fullyFundedDate":1745077482317,"projectUrl":"project/clean-green-and-calm-a-sensory-friend/9253043/","projectTitle":"Clean, Green, and Calm: A Sensory-Friendly Classroom Reset","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hoodye","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8175479_orig.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1644720134543","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8175479"},{"teacherId":9303879,"projectId":9000486,"letterContent":"Thank you letter to All Donors!\r\n\r\nThis has been a great week in my marine biology class. When the students first heard that our project was fully funded they could not stop asking when we were going to dissect the sharks. When I told them last week we would be doing the shark dissections next week they were so excited. I showed them one of the sharks to let them know what they were going to be dealing with and they could not stop talking about it for the rest of the class period.\r\n\r\nFrom the moment they received the shark they were going to be working with they treated it with respect and examined it very carefully. Some were shy at first while others dove right in. The shy ones eventually warmed up and got involved helping where they could but still kept an arms length. Pictures were taken and posted or shared with friends and some of my students even recorded the whole experience so that they could share it later. It was full on discovery mode and they were having a great time exploring and making observations related to the sharks, both inside and out. \r\n\r\nThe Students explored the stomach contents, the skin, and the largest of them all, the liver. They were fascinated that there was so much more to these creatures than scary teeth and blank stares. For some it was their first experience dissecting something or even seeing a shark up close and that happened all because of you and your generosity.
