My students planted the peas and radishes themselves, and every day they rush outside to check on their progress. They love watching the radish leaves grow and get especially excited when they see the red tops begin to pop out of the ground. It has become a daily celebration. Instead of just reading about plant life cycles, they are experiencing them firsthand.\r\n\r\nWhen our pea plants began to flower, students immediately connected it to our lesson on the parts of a flower. They confidently explained that pea pods would come next. Some students have already harvested peas and were amazed at how sweet they tasted. For many, it was their first time eating something they grew themselves, and the pride on their faces said it all.\r\n\r\nWe will continue measuring growth and reflecting on how care, sunlight, and water impact development. Students are planting the seeds, making daily observations, and recording changes as they learn about germination, plant structures, and environmental needs. This experience has helped bring our science lessons to life and allowed students to truly engage with the content in a meaningful way.\r\n\r\nWhen students first received the seeds, they were excited and full of curiosity. Many immediately began asking questions about how long each plant would take to grow, which seeds would sprout first, and whether they would be able to eat what they grow. That excitement has continued as students eagerly check on their plants and share observations with one another, building both scientific thinking and collaboration.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue caring for their plants while learning about photosynthesis, adaptations, and how plants support ecosystems and human life. This project has helped students feel proud of their work and more connected to science, and it has created a joyful learning experience in our classroom. The pencil boxes have helped us better organize colored pencils and markers, making materials easy for students to access and return independently. This has made transitions smoother and allowed students to focus more on learning. The liquid chalk markers have been especially exciting—students used them to create and label food webs and food chains directly on their tables, collaborating with peers and explaining their thinking in real time.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, they were thrilled and eager to use them. The chalk markers immediately sparked creativity and discussion as students worked together to draw diagrams and revise them as they learned more. In the garden, students were excited to use the food storage bags to take home the crops and vegetables they helped grow. Being able to harvest food and share it with their families made the learning experience feel real and memorable.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue applying these resources as we deepen our lessons on ecosystems and plant life. The bamboo sticks are already being used to support growing plants, such as our tomato plants, and students are learning firsthand how structure and support help plants grow taller and stronger. These materials are helping turn abstract concepts into concrete experiences, and they are creating learning moments my students will remember for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1760659659230,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-learning-classroom-supplies-fo/9762631/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Learning: Classroom Supplies for Creativity and Exploration","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Garcia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8724820_orig.jpg?crop=722,722,x0,y447&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1701214572372","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8724820"},{"teacherId":8724820,"projectId":9200765,"letterContent":"🌱 Our garden last school year was such a success, and it truly wouldn't have been possible without the generosity of our donors. Thanks to your support, students got to experience the joy of planting, harvesting, and caring for the garden together — and they loved every moment of it.\r\n\r\nThis year, we can't wait to build on that success. Students will be designing the garden, deciding what to plant where, and creating a care schedule. They'll track plant growth, soil conditions, and even explore natural ways to handle pests, all while connecting it back to what we're learning in science about ecosystems and cycles. We'll also be weaving the garden into projects on pollinators, food chains, and water conservation. And of course, the best part will be harvesting and reflecting on everything they accomplished from start to finish.\r\n\r\nThe new materials we received will make this whole process so much easier and more engaging for our 7th graders.
