My students light up every morning when they see the new hands-on centers — counting bears, snap cubes, pattern blocks, and lacing beads have made math time something they look forward to. These tools have helped my students strengthen number sense while also building fine-motor control and coordination, which are so important at this age.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was watching a small group of students working together to measure their desks with connecting cubes — they were so proud to discover who had the \"longest desk.\" Another group used the lacing cards and tweezers from the fine-motor station and called it \"finger gym.\" These materials have not only boosted engagement but also encouraged collaboration and language growth for my English learners.\r\n\r\nAs we move into the next part of our math unit, we'll continue using these resources to explore addition and subtraction through concrete, tactile play. Because of your generosity, I can now give every child a hands-on way to make abstract math concepts real and fun to learn. Thank you for believing in our youngest learners and helping them start their school journey with joy and confidence!","fullyFundedDate":1758727422265,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-math-and-fine-motor-fun-for-kin/9741171/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Math and Fine Motor Fun for Kindergarten","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nunez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8566946_orig.jpg?crop=1504,1504,x408,y1519&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691299776463","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/cecilianunez"},{"teacherId":8566946,"projectId":8873326,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our kindergarten classroom has been transformed into a vibrant space for artistic expression and joyful learning! The watercolor sets, air-dry clay, and other supplies you helped provide have opened up new opportunities for my young artists to explore creativity while strengthening fine motor skills and language development.\r\n\r\nOne of our favourite projects so far was creating \"Feelings Sculptures.\" Each student used clay to shape a heart representing an emotion—some made \"excited hearts\" with swirls and stars, while others crafted \"calm hearts\" in soft colours. As they worked, students shared stories about times they felt those emotions, turning art into a rich language and SEL experience. When they first saw the materials, their faces absolutely lit up—they couldn't believe the paints and clay were just for them.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to create a collaborative mural using watercolor and crayon resist techniques to tell a story about our classroom community. These moments—where students build identity, confidence, and joy through art—are only possible because of your kindness. One specific moment that stands out happened when a student coping with the loss of a parent received a kit during a particularly difficult week. The simple act of receiving essentials like deodorant, socks, and chapstick helped ease the emotional weight of adjusting to a new home routine, where even basic needs had become uncertain. For this student, it felt like someone was looking out for them, and that feeling matters!\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reactions were a mix of surprise and relief. Some quietly asked if they could take an item home, while others lit up at the idea that these things were meant just for them. It created a ripple effect of kindness. Students who received kits began helping me spread the word, and soon we had a small, trusted system in place. Any student who expresses a need is never questioned. Whether they ask for one item or a full kit, they are supported without hesitation.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these kits will continue to play a role in our daily care efforts, especially as we move into projects around empathy, service, and kindness. Students are becoming more aware of how to look out for one another and are learning that helping someone in need can start with something small. We are grateful to the donors who made this possible. Your contribution gave our students more than supplies. You gave them comfort, dignity, and a sense of being seen.","fullyFundedDate":1739717001907,"projectUrl":"project/confidence-kits-empowering-students-wit/9115925/","projectTitle":"Confidence Kits: Empowering Students with Essential Care.","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Velasquez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5351057_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y176&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726082815674","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kennedycounselor"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_32616","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":386,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":95,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":86.0,"schoolId":32616,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about John F Kennedy Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"John F Kennedy Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/desert-sands-unified-school-district/john-f-kennedy-elementary-school/32616"}
