The new stools have been placed at our back table, where they're used during small group activities or when students choose to work with a friend or partner. This addition has made it much easier for students to collaborate in different pairings around the room.\r\n\r\nThe stampers and reward charts have also been a wonderful tool. It also adds a cozy, welcoming touch to our room that I truly enjoy.\r\n\r\nMy students were thrilled when the boxes arrived and even more excited to see all the new items added to the calming corner. Watching the space come together was a highlight for them, and they couldn't wait to try it out. My students were thrilled to create buttons in celebration of World Kindness Day. I prepared the button circles, and they eagerly expressed their creativity through unique designs. After I assembled the buttons, the students worked together to fill goodie bags, which they later shared with our school community. To make them extra special, we added labels so everyone knew who the bags were from, and placed a penguin sticker on the back to represent our class, The Scuba Penguins.\r\n\r\nAlthough it rained on Kindness Day, we spent time reflecting on what kindness truly means. The wobbly stools, cushions, and floor seats immediately brought so much energy into our classroom. We spent a little time trying out each option, and it was so fun to watch them find the spots that worked best for them. One student said, \"I can finally wiggle without bothering anyone!\" and that honestly made me smile because it's exactly what I hoped this project would do: let kids learn in ways that feel natural for them.\r\n\r\nAlready, we're seeing the difference in our learning. Students use the new seating for reading, writing, math, and across all other subjects and it's helping them focus and stay engaged in ways they couldn't before. A moment that sticks out is during a reading conference: a student who usually gets distracted picked a wobble stool, settled in, and read for a solid 20 minutes without interruption while wobbling in that chair. It's little things like that that remind me how important choice and comfort are for learning. Students also feel like they have more choice in picking what's just right for them. \r\n\r\nAs we keep going with our current projects, the flexible seating is making everything better. In math, they're gathering in small groups more easily to solve problems together. Honestly, it's made our classroom feel calmer, happier, and more focused. Your support has truly transformed our learning space into a warm, welcoming, and organized environment.\r\n\r\nThe carpet has quickly become the heart of our classroom. Each morning, students gather on it for our class meetings, story times, and daily lessons. Having a clean, colorful and bright, shared space where everyone can sit together comfortably has brought a new sense of community and focus to our day. Each square on the rug is big enough to fit a 1st grader and the students love having their own special assigned spots. It has helped create a calmer, more engaging atmosphere for learning.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has made a lasting difference, not just in our classroom's appearance, but in how our students learn and interact and also for all the future classes that pass through this room. I have it set that the students are able to use the flexible seating during silent reading time. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were super excited and wanted to use them right away. I told them I had to explain the rules for using them and how I needed to schedule a rotation for the seats to be changed so everyone has a chance to use all of them.\r\n\r\nMy next step would be to try to incorporate the flexible seating in times other than reading so they have the opportunity to work around the classroom and with different people.","fullyFundedDate":1758207604627,"projectUrl":"project/flex-focus-for-teamwork/9701006/","projectTitle":"Flex & Focus for Teamwork","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Yamaguchi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10235152"},{"teacherId":10235152,"projectId":9683728,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to my project! We use the seat cushions everyday during reading time so they can read around the classroom with their friends. We also use the magnetic squares and the magnetic pen holder for our class schedule as well as our classroom goose. They love switching the outfit on our classroom goose everyday. We use the whiteboard materials in math and in small groups. We use the timer to display how much time they have left as well as a stopwatch for various games. The moment my students saw it, their faces lit up with pure joy. They rushed over, eager to sit on it, touch it, and claim their new favorite learning spot. It instantly made our classroom feel even more like home.\r\n\r\nThis carpet has truly changed the way we learn together. It has become our go-to gathering space—where we start our mornings, dive into read-alouds, and have some of our best discussions. One of my favorite moments was during our social emotional learning conversations. Instead of sitting at their desks, students naturally settled onto the carpet, sharing their thoughts in a way that felt more open and connected. They've told me how much they love having a comfortable place to sit, and I've already noticed how much more focused and engaged they are during these discussions.\r\n\r\nIt has also been a game-changer for my students who need to move their bodies. For those who struggle with sitting still at desks, the carpet gives them the flexibility to shift and adjust while staying engaged. It has been especially helpful for my special needs students, providing a space where they can focus without feeling restricted. I've also seen how it helps students be more mindful of personal space, creating a calmer and more respectful environment. It's more than just a carpet; it's a place for connection, learning, and growth. Thank you again for making such a meaningful difference in our classroom.
