Rather than feeling anxious or overwhelmed, they were eager to explore, engage, and interact. This allowed me to observe their authentic responses and better understand their strengths and learning needs in a low-pressure, play-based environment.\r\n\r\nFor example, the Montessori jumping counting bears and stacking cups allowed students to show their cognitive flexibility, visual-motor integration, and fine motor planning, while also providing insight into attention, task persistence, and response to cues. \r\n\r\nThe language photo library and vocabulary cards supported expressive and receptive language interactions. These tools were especially helpful for multilingual learners or students with limited verbal expression, allowing them to demonstrate knowledge in a more accessible and comfortable way.\r\n\r\nStudent use the color matching eggs to categorize feelings and explain emotional experiences. This not only provides social-emotional insight but also highlights their ability to engage in abstract reasoning and symbolic representation.\r\n\r\nThe Montessori learning-to-dress board was an excellent tool for daily living skills, sequencing, and fine motor abilities.\r\n\r\nFinally, the 3-D geometric shapes supported spatial reasoning, categorization, and problem-solving. Students enjoyed identifying shapes and manipulating them to complete structured tasks.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support these materials made learning more meaningful, equitable, and child-centered. They allowed me to better understand how students learn.","fullyFundedDate":1746785268918,"projectUrl":"project/alternative-opportunities-to-show-knowle/9151760/","projectTitle":"Alternative Opportunities to Show Knowledge and Potential!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Chelsea","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9740985"},{"teacherId":9740985,"projectId":9097026,"letterContent":"The items from the project, such as the dollhouse, play food set, and diversity plushies, have allowed students to express and process their emotions through play. As students follow Roz the robot's journey of survival and adaptation in the wild, they practice comprehension by making predictions, identifying key events, and summarizing chapters. The book's rich descriptions and emotional moments also offer opportunities to build inferencing skills, as students interpret character feelings and motivations that aren't always directly stated. The story's structure and vocabulary support fluency and vocabulary development, while its themes of nature, identity, and empathy invite critical thinking and discussion, enhancing students' ability to analyze text and connect it to real-world issues. Overall, The Wild Robot is an engaging text that supports both foundational and higher-level reading skills.\r\n Reading in my second/third grade classroom is a dynamic and engaging part of the school day, designed to build a strong foundation in literacy. It often includes a combination of whole-group instruction, where the teacher models strategies like predicting, questioning, and summarizing using a shared text, and small-group guided reading, where students read leveled books with teacher support tailored to their needs. Independent reading time allows students to choose \"just-right\" books to practice fluency and build a love for reading. Students might be seen discussing books with partners, completing reading journals, or participating in literacy centers that focus on phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension. Overall, reading in my second/third grade classroom is interactive, student-centered, and focused on helping children grow into confident, thoughtful readers.\r\n My students loved having their own copy of The Wild Robot and reading along with me as I read chapters aloud.
