Our library is more than just a collection of books—it is a refuge, a place where students come not only to learn but to feel safe, seen, and supported. Thanks to you, we now have books that provide guidance, comfort, and hope for students who are experiencing grief, loss, and complex emotions.\r\n\r\nIn a rural, underfunded school like ours, every book we add to our collection is an investment in our students' well-being. We do not have an unlimited budget to keep our shelves stocked with the most relevant and responsive materials, so we rely on donations like yours to ensure our library meets the evolving needs of our students. When a book speaks to a student at just the right moment, it can be life-changing. The grief resources you helped provide have already made an impact—students who were struggling to put their feelings into words now have books that articulate what they could not, and interactive journals that offer a private space to process emotions at their own pace.\r\n\r\nSince these books arrived, I've seen students quietly seek out titles like When a Friend Dies and How I Feel: Grief Journal for Kids. One student, who had never taken much interest in reading before, told me that she keeps her new book with her at all times because \"it makes things feel a little less lonely.\" The interactive journals were given to students identified as needing an outlet for their grief—one student shared that writing things down at night helps them sleep, while another found comfort in being able to express emotions they didn't feel ready to say out loud. These moments remind me why school libraries are essential—and why your kindness matters so much.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, our students are finding their way through tough emotions with the help of books. Because of you, they are learning that when life feels overwhelming, they can turn to reading for support, for understanding, and for hope. Your generosity has not just funded a project—you have given our students something priceless: the ability to see themselves in stories, to feel less alone, and to know that even in the hardest moments, they have a place to turn.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1736803102941,"projectUrl":"project/books-for-healing-supporting-students-t/8940209/","projectTitle":"Books for Healing: Supporting Students Through Grief and Growth","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. DeSio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9346139_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1698702076084","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/washingtonschoollibrary"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5120","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":393,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":78,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":33,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":56,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":75.4,"schoolId":5120,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Washington School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Washington School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/cloverdale-unified-school-district/washington-school/5120"}
