Having new, engaging books in our classroom has helped make reading something students look forward to each day.\r\n\r\nThrough these books, students are strengthening important 5th grade reading skills such as making inferences, identifying theme and main ideas, analyzing characters, using text evidence to support their thinking, building vocabulary, and making connections across different texts. We read independently, with partners, and as a class. Students share their thinking, discuss characters and events, and recommend books to one another.\r\n\r\nIt has been especially exciting to see students who were not always confident readers become more interested and willing to pick up a book. Some students have discovered favorite genres and authors, while others enjoy talking with their classmates about the stories they are reading. These conversations have helped create a classroom community where students encourage one another and celebrate reading together.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my 5th graders access to books that inspire curiosity, strengthen their reading skills, and help them develop a genuine love of reading. I have watched students light up when they find a book that captures their attention or a character they can connect with. For some of my students, simply having a book that feels interesting and accessible to them has helped them begin to see themselves as readers.\r\n\r\nThese books are helping students develop important skills such as understanding characters, making predictions, asking thoughtful questions, learning new vocabulary, finding evidence in the text, and making connections between what they read and their own lives. But beyond those academic skills, the books are teaching students to wonder, imagine, empathize, and see the world through someone else's eyes.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is no longer just about completing a task. Students read independently, with partners, in small groups, and together as a class. We talk about the stories, laugh at funny moments, wonder what will happen next, and sometimes have thoughtful conversations about the feelings and challenges the characters experience. It is wonderful to hear students recommend books to one another and proudly tell a classmate, \"You should read this one!\"\r\n\r\nSome of the most rewarding moments have been watching students who were once reluctant readers become excited about choosing a book. Students who may not have considered themselves \"readers\" are now flipping through pages, sharing favorite characters, and looking forward to their next book.
