My 7th grade students have been participating with their nature journals for months now. We take bi-monthly field trips to areas near our school campus. At these times, students are studying our local native tree and plant species. We learn their latin names, traits of the species, and draw them and make observations. They have made major connections and have a sense of place with the ecosystems in their community. \r\n\r\nAs for dissections, we have dissected the cow eyeballs after learning about our nervous systems. The frog dissection will be in the spring semester. Getting to see and understand how our bodies function with the comparative of organs is a life-long memory that my students now get to have.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting hands-on science in my classroom. They are learning to initiate organic social situations, read boy language and practice sportsmanship for both winning and losing a game. Some general education students caught wind of our new games and opted to come into the class during lunch and breaks, thus expanding the overall sense of community and building inclusion in organic events. \r\n\r\nThe student were ecstatic to see the boxes arriving and demonstrated the utmost motivation to complete their work and earn game time with the new items. \r\n\r\nThe next steps include maintaining the acquired social skills and building the sense of community through organically occurring events. \r\n\r\nOur appreciate goes beyond what we can ever express. It's easy to say it's not my child, it's not my community, not my community, not my world, not my problem. Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people, my HEROS!!!\" Your organization and all involved are \"paying it forward\" every day. Your organization celebrates everyday heros, making a difference in strangers lives. This was my first time using Donors Chose, and was overwhelmed by the ease, and support I was given. I was able to create a \"conversation corner\" with the chairs, the Legos added to children's creativity and the games add smiles and fun. The Breathing Sphere has helped demonstrate the pace of breathing for children. And SNACKS...kiddos need , love and appreciate a little food, always\r\n\r\nI created the Zen Den to be a room to to help self-regulate when any emotion (anger, anxiety, sadness, frustration) became too, big. The goal of the room is to keep children at school and not need to leave when an emotion felt like it was highjacking their life. Counselors take students to the Zen Den to help them explore and practice ways of de-escalating through self-regulation. The Zen Den is equipped with may options for self-regulation. However, during both lunches each day, all children can come in and explore, feel safe, learn social skills and PLAY.
