We went to the library and students were greeted with a \"place setting\" of a book to get them started. \r\n\r\nWe read for 3 rounds of 15 minutes. Each round was with a different book until they found the book that spoke to them. To get 8th graders to be engaged, silent and reading for 45 minutes is no small feat! This is a skill that many people take for granted. Even the most fidgety of students had their heads deep in a book. \r\n\r\nNow that everyone has made their book selection, we will begin reading for 6 minutes a day 4 days a week. Research shows that reading for 6 minutes helps to reduce stress by 68%. Students will have the opportunity to destress and learn about history in a new way. For some, it will hopefully spark in them a love of reading as well. It's already happening as one student asked if she could take her book home over the weekend! \r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous donation.","fullyFundedDate":1746786920554,"projectUrl":"project/book-tastinganyone/9314667/","projectTitle":"“Book Tasting”Anyone?","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Salz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4813505_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746287343799","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4813505"},{"teacherId":7797912,"projectId":9109841,"letterContent":"Thank you again for the purchase of the new Brother Color Laser Printer! The group is growing, and many players bring their own instrument, however not everyone has a guitar of their own. This allows all students to play a guitar without purchasing one, so they can see if they are interested or not.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the club, our Spanish teacher also uses the guitar sometimes to teach songs in Spanish to his classes, and in the Spring they perform for the school while the teacher and I play along. We are now getting to the point where other students also have the ability to play along, so the Spring show should be really good this year.\r\n\r\nThanks again for allowing me to share LIVE music with our students.
