We went to the library and students were greeted with a \"place setting\" of a book to get them started. \r\n\r\nWe read for 3 rounds of 15 minutes. Each round was with a different book until they found the book that spoke to them. To get 8th graders to be engaged, silent and reading for 45 minutes is no small feat! This is a skill that many people take for granted. Even the most fidgety of students had their heads deep in a book. \r\n\r\nNow that everyone has made their book selection, we will begin reading for 6 minutes a day 4 days a week. Research shows that reading for 6 minutes helps to reduce stress by 68%. Students will have the opportunity to destress and learn about history in a new way. For some, it will hopefully spark in them a love of reading as well. It is fantastic, and the toner replacement service which we have free access to 1,000 copies/mo for 2 months, is also amazing.
