Cell phones have been a distraction throughout the time that I have been working at our school as a teacher aide. Various teachers tried different ways to get students to focus on schoolwork rather than on their phones, with mixed results across the board change needed to happen. At the same time that our cell phone policy as a school became stricter, with the use of the cell phone locker we were able to manage students turning in their phone during the time that they are at the resource center. They now come in and without hesitation turn in their phone, which they know is safely locked within the locker. For those students who have a little trouble turning in their phone, or want to charge it while we are in possession of it, then the lock boxes have worked great. Putting a cell phone in the lock box is an easy process, and students understand that the time that is put on the timer is measured in regard to the time they are scheduled to leave.\r\n\r\nThe laminator has been a great resource to have because it is one that normally was not approved by our administration to buy using our resource center budget. One of the first things we used this for was to print out some math resources and numbers. The numbers came into use with the cell phones as students are given a number that goes with the slot that their phone is in, as extra assurance that nothing will happen to it. The laminator helped create these number cards that are given to students, and make the process look more organized. Laminating things such as student/teacher resources has only been the first step, and we continue looking forward to innovate more ways to use it in our resource center.\r\n\r\nI really want to thank the donors for their effort into making a difference in the community. While it may not seem as much, especially coming from companies/organizations that handle multi-million dollar deals on a daily basis, the impact that even a cell phone locker or laminator can have is noticeable. Before this students and parents were skeptical of teachers being in possession of student phones because there was not an organized way of storing them except than in a locked filed cabinet. Parents, and especially students now see the locker and lock boxes and are confident that we take care of their students' items as we look out for their best academic interests.","fullyFundedDate":1746785683982,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-management/9255322/","projectTitle":"Classroom Management","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Perez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9986107"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_124919","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":374,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":85,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":null,"schoolId":124919,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sweetwater Secondary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sweetwater Secondary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/california-department-of-education/sweetwater-secondary-school/124919"}
