When the boxes arrived, the excitement was obvious. My students' eyes lit up as they unpacked the colorful markers, stacks of poster boards, and, most exciting of all, the new speaker system. One student said, \"It feels like we finally have the tools to do professional work,\" and that feeling has stayed with us in every lesson. Your gift has sparked their curiosity and given them the quality materials they need to show their learning in ways that go beyond words on a page.\r\n\r\nThe basic supplies like pencils, tape, staplers, and dry-erase markers have made a huge difference. These simple items are the unsung heroes of our daily routine. In our history class, we use them all the time to map out timelines on the whiteboard and organize primary source documents for gallery walks. Having these basics on hand means we never have to stop learning because we're missing something. The art supplies have also helped my students' creativity shine. We've moved away from worksheets and started doing hands-on art projects. With the donated paints, colored pencils, and posters, students have recreated historical propaganda, designed accurate flags from different periods, and drawn the complex routes of global trade. These supplies have made history more hands-on, helping my visual and kinesthetic learners understand tough ideas more easily and with more excitement.\r\n\r\nThe new speaker system has completely changed our classroom. Before your donation, our old audio made it hard for students in the back to hear and join in with multimedia lessons. Now, the room is filled with clear sound that brings history to life. We often play music from the time periods we study to help set the mood, but the best part of the semester has been our case study on Alexander Hamilton. By listening to the Hamilton musical, students analyze the lyrics for historical accuracy, talk about the details of the American Revolution, and debate the political rivalries of the founding fathers. The clear speakers let us hear every word and every beat, making these lessons the ones students enjoy most. We truly could not have done this deep dive into musical history without your gift.\r\n\r\nAll of these resources came together in our biggest project yet: the EXPO project. This semester-long project asked students to create maps and blueprints for \"colonized planets.\" They had to use everything they learned about colonialism—like the reasons, logistics, and ethical questions—and apply it to a futuristic world. With the donated tape, posters, and paints, they built detailed maps of their colonies. This project connected all their subjects: they used Math and Science for space travel calculations, English to write creative stories about their settlers, and History to design the societies and maps. Watching them work together on their posters, using their new markers to draw new worlds while Hamilton played in the background, showed just how much your support has helped create a joyful, integrated learning space.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next project is a \"Mock Constitutional Convention.\" Students will use the rest of the art supplies and posters to make \"propaganda\" posters that show different views on the ratification of the Constitution. Your gift has given us what we need now and has also helped us build a more engaging curriculum for the rest of the year. Thank you for believing in my students and for helping me bring history to life in such a meaningful way.","fullyFundedDate":1746787204913,"projectUrl":"project/supplies-that-bring-history-to-life/9304052/","projectTitle":"Supplies That Bring History to Life","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Garcia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9575644_orig.jpg?crop=614,614,x53,y76&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746062061072","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9575644"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74571","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":667,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":82,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.1,"schoolId":74571,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about The School of Arts and Enterprise on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"The School of Arts and Enterprise","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/california-department-of-education/school-of-arts-enterprise/74571"}
