It was such a rewarding experience to be able to give back to the elementary, middle school and our underclassmen here at school. Our students focused on 3 different tasks. The first was to create empowering bracelets and to hand them out. These bracelets had to include some encouraging words, some positive message to believe in themselves, to keep going and to know that they matter.\r\n\r\nThe second task was to walk afterschool to one of our community elementary schools and to provide elementary students with encouraging pencils. It was so cute to see that students began to say hi to our high school students after getting a change to see that bigger kids are not scary but rather friends who share the same community.\r\n\r\nThe next task was completed during Final Exams. Students had to find 3 new people they have never met and provide them with a stress-ball that included a positive message. Students receiving these positive messages were all kind, happy and grateful. You have allowed me to change our classroom set up. We now have 8 vertical white boards on the walls. Our classroom is 100% student centered. Our teacher desk us tuck in a corner out of the way under a cabinet. We have 4 walls dedicated to student work, group collaboration and we love our classroom being focused on Students. \r\n\r\nThe vertical white boards are used almost daily. The white boards allow us to display our team work, collaborate, have challenging discussions and also collaborate with other class periods as we area allowed to see their work and find ways to add to their solutions.\r\n\r\n\r\nThank you for your generous contribution. Your generous donations have provided our classroom with a snack bar for students who show up early in the morning and for those who stay after school to study, review, work in groups or simply need a quiet space that allows them to focus on completing their math work or working on improving their math skills.\r\n\r\nOur classroom is open from 7:45 am to 5:00pm. Students know they can always come in to our classroom and they can even bring a friend who is not currently taking a class with our teacher. It is great to see that participation has significantly increased for office hours.\r\n\r\nStudents know this is a comfortable environment that simply welcomes students to come and work on academics. We provide a daily snack for anyone who comes to either morning or afternoon office hours. Students who join us for lunch office hours are welcome to bring in their lunch. \r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of our hearts and tummies, Thank you! These amazing snacks are great when we are tired but we know that there is a lot to be completed. We always have a graphing calculator that we can borrow for the day when we may forget our own calculator or we do not have our own calculator. I know that graphing calculators help us greatly with some of the most challenging concepts in Statistics,\r\n\r\nThank you for providing us with dry erase markers, We are using them on a daily basis. We use them on the vertical white boards when we work with out team and we also use them on our desks for problem solving. \r\n\r\nThe colorful pens you provided are used each day by students to add color to our classroom activities, notes, labs and case studies. \r\n\r\n\r\nThank you so much! Every student received a stress ball which they carry in their backpack each day. It is wonderful to see them walking around campus with their stress balls. The Feelings and feelings book have been kept in our classroom to be used when students are having a bad day. Sometimes all it takes is a few minutes reading a few of the pages to remember that we are all going through tough times. Students love the Mickey Birthday Train; it has been used almost daily to take pictures of Birthday students and students really go out of their way to set up the Birthday Train and post their Birthdays on social media. My students were super excited when we received the boxes of wonderful donations. Students were so pleased to see that they would each be received a stress ball to keep as their own. \r\nHigh school is tough in academics, adding the stress of being a teenager, social life, expectations and college readiness can be a lot on my students. I want to thank you for taking the time to read about our project and contributing to the social emotional wellness of our students. It is at times the little things that make the greatest impact on our students. Being able to destress with a small toy may not seem like a big deal, but these stress balls have really made a positive impact. \r\n\r\nThanks again for your kindness, We are taking it one day at a time.
