Books such as *The Sour Grape* and *The Smart Cookie* by Jory John have helped us talk about kindness, emotions, making good choices, believing in ourselves, and understanding that being \"smart\" can look different for everyone. These stories have been especially meaningful because I want my students to recognize how much potential they have and to always try their best.\r\n\r\nThe books have also allowed me to bring my students' cultures into our classroom in a meaningful way. For Mexican Independence Day, we read *Paletero Man*, which gave my students an opportunity to see Hispanic culture represented in a story while celebrating their own heritage. We have also enjoyed Spanish books such as *Chancho el campeón* and *Chancho el mentiroso*. Having access to books originally written in Spanish or created by Hispanic authors is especially valuable in our dual-language classroom because students are able to see their language and culture represented authentically in the books we share.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is mainly centered around interactive read-alouds. I read books aloud to my kindergarten students, and they love having a collection where they can help select which books they would like me to read. As we read, we talk about the characters, make predictions, discuss the lessons in the story, learn new vocabulary, and make connections to our own lives. These books have made our read-aloud time something students genuinely look forward to.\r\n\r\nOne of the most special things I have noticed is how my Mexican students have gravitated toward our new Spanish and culturally representative books. They now have books that go beyond simply being translations of English stories and include stories and authors that reflect Hispanic cultures and experiences. Seeing their excitement when they recognize familiar language and cultural connections has been incredibly meaningful.\r\n\r\nI have also noticed that some of my students who struggle with behavior and participation are especially drawn to books such as *The Good Egg* and *The Smart Cookie*. These stories give us a positive and engaging way to talk about emotions, choices, self-confidence, and personal growth. Seeing these students connect with the characters and become engaged during reading has reminded me just how powerful the right book can be.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for giving my students these opportunities.
